I started to go gray at 16, so you think I would have figured this all out by now (I'm in my 30s now) I have been going to a salon for the last several years on a monthly basis to have my hair colored. When I had highlights, it was the only option, but now I'm just doing single process color ( a darkish brown) to cover the gray. It seems like there might be some options for me vs. paying $100/month at the salon to fix this. I remember that when I did used to try to color my hair, I would often get a horizontal line between the old color and he newly applied regrowth color. Do I want permanent color if I want to try saving myself some money, or a semi-permanent (washes out in 15-21 shampoos)? I'm worried the semi-perm. won't cover the gray adequately. I'm not planning foregoing the salon all together, but every other time coloring it myself to cut my hair color costs in half. Thanks for any input |

You can use the semi-permanent depending on how grey you are (and how resistant it is), and whether you mind coloring often. I am also a dark brunette, pretty much 90% grey in the temples, 10% on top, and not much elsewhere. And it's resistant grey at that. I can and do use Natural Instincts semi-permanent color, it's a great product and $8 or less per box. But, I end up needing it every three weeks (two if I have a special occasion and want to look perfect). That's with washing my hair every other day. For permanent hair color, I think Hydrience is a great product (also about $8) but there are lots of others out there as well. The permanent color won't wash out, but you'll have to touch up the roots every month or so or you will have the root line of regrowth. If you go for Natural Instincts semi only, it will wash out gradually and you won't have much of a root line. So it all depends on what your needs are. I hope that made sense. It's worth trying the semi first...imo. Just don't choose a color that is too dark...and try it on your grey hair only....to find the right color...depth and shade, and to see if it will stay on the grey well enough to blend. ------------- Sophie http://salonwest.proboards34.com - http://salonwest.proboards34.com |

I have less than 50% gray and I tried the Natural Instincts in Clove. It worked! I can't see any gray hairs. It's a nice color - a little darker than my natural medium brown. im a hair stylist from boston ma.. only the N and NN series will cover gray hair... using levels 4-6 a sof brown , and light brown, then go through and add some highlights, any ? ask me, thanks ------------- Email, me and ill try to help a sister out!!!!!! |
