I'm looking to use one of the new highlighting kits that are out now.. Herbal Essences or Clairol just revamped thier bleach line. When the intructions say to style your hair as usual and then comb the highlights through.. what if you wear your hair in different styles? Sometimes I wear it parted on either side or down the middle or pull it back in bun, braid or ponytail. Would i part my hair in the middle add highlights, then part on the right add more then part on the left and add more? I want to get an overall natural blonde look and not over do it. I had highlights done in the salon before and I dont think the results were worth the $$$, the only good thing was having someone know where to place the streaks, so I would like to try it at home.

i'm now very upset with my haircolor, because I too used an at home kit. It turned weird colors and splotched out,so I had to get it dyed over and now it's somewhat red and brown. My advice is be very wary of these kits!

The kits with the brushes basically put globs of hair color on your hair. You'd be better off using a paint bruch or your fingers.

My suggestion is to go to Sally's Beauty Supply and get a cap and bleach and do it that way. Or buy a kit at Walgreens that has a cap in it.

For at home use you really can't beat the ole cap method... do a test and have fun!

Speaking of the cap, Hal... or anyone... I haven't been having much luck at doing the roots of my cap-highlighted hair. I've tried pulling the whole strands through and doing the roots and doing the loop method. I like the loop method better BUT I can't seem to get my roots!! Other parts of my hair turn out fine... but the top of my head never gets highlighed. :( Any tips?
