How can I avoid getting the bright, *glowing* effect at the roots around the top of my head when I dye my hair lighter?

For 3-7 days after I touch-up my roots, the top of my head looks like it's glowing and (I think at least) it looks fake. After a few days (possibly when I have the tiniest of roots to make it look like it's NOT glowing? or from the shampoo??) it usually looks good.

How can I prevent this from happening so I don't have to deal with this for a week or so?

(BTW I use Clairol Nice and Easy)

Ok... since I said that I used to "suck it up" and don't want to anymore.... anyone else? I know there's a way to avoid it... I'm just not sure what.

I've heard in some posts here that when bleaching, the heat from your head makes the roots process faster than the rest. Apparently when bleaching you should do the roots last to help avoid that effect. My only experience with the brand you mention was to go much darker, so I'm not sure if going lighter has the same effect as bleaching, but it's the only theory I can think of right now.

use a toner with NO LIFT like Born BLonde. It will tone down your roots w/o processing.
