HI!!! I have medium brown curly hair... It quite long... I'm absolutely dying to dye it dark black.. (lol dying to dye) ANYWAYS I was wondering if there was anoyone out there who'd done that before.. I'd like to do it myself as well.... Does anyone know of a good product to use.. and how is dying on curly hair anyways? I'm not keen on having to cut it all off id I screw up.. LOL THanks in advance!!  I'm all excited for my new change.. LOL I've changed majors and feel like I need to be a little nuts.... hehe ------------- ...THere's TOO much blood in my Caffeine System... |

Deposits (semi-permanent) is a good idea because it will wash out in about 28 or so shampoos. Curly hair takes color no differently than straight hair. So no worries there. I recommend Clairol Natural Instincts or L'Oreal Casting Colorspa Moisture Actif. I've only tried the latter. NEVER ever dye your hair black using permanent colors, unless you are planning to keep it that color for a very long time. Permanent black is hard to get out of hair. That's my situation right now. Good luck and PS. if you want your hair the darkest black, make sure you don't get any kind of "soft black" or "blue black", those are lighter. |

Semi-permanent will probably be the best for you just in case you don't like it. If you DO end up liking the black, try Color by Robert Craig (www.robertcraig.com), it has no harsh chemicals. Good Luck!

THanks Guys... *hehe* Yeah I'm thinking semi-permanent is probably the better bet.. I have a buddy coming over to help me do it tomorrow morning... wish me luck.. and I was pretty worried bout that curls would take on dye differently.. BUT.. ARGH!!! My buddy can't make it over this morning... *sigh* and I'm all ancy to dye it... maybe I should just do it myself... lol I got the L'Oreal colorSpa moisture actif in Ebony... lol I'm thinking that'll come out pretty darn black... To dye myeslf or to wait... hmmm... I kinda like the idea of having someone there I can share the blame with if it turns out rediculously bad.. Not a lot can go wrong with brown -> black coloring. Black is a strong dye that covers everything in it's track. I've known blondes that were able to get it all covered with one stepl. You can go ahead and do it, I've done it myself lots of times successfully. Just read the instructions thoroughly before you start. Btw....  My favorite brand, but this permanent, so stay away. |

ARGH!!!! my buddy scared me into going dark brown instead of black... I totally prefer it darker.. SOOOOOOOO Now I need to go black... I used semi-permanent colour... Level 2... If you used level 2 color when you dyed it brown, then you don't have to wait too long. Level 2 doesn't damage hair too much. Black is on the opposite extreme of bleach blonde, so it's really intense. You'll notice that it stays longer than other colors, even if you are using level 2. |

LOL........... I am gonig black next weekend... I have totally put it off long enough... hehe Wondering if anyone has found that the semi-permenant dyes actually wash out? If I use black am I going to end up blotchy? and if so could I just fix it by using the darkest shade of brown or something and working my way lighter gradually again? LOL K so I'm more likely to think "screw the after effects" and just do it.. lol BUT meh... decided to be cautious... hehe basically what I wanna know is.... "Will I end up looking like a freak at some point in the near future?"... LOL says the 20 year old college student who prolly looks like a freak mostly anyways cause she hasn't had her coffee.. They fade a lot, but never wash out completely, at least in my experience. You'll probably still have roots, just not as noticable as with permanent. If you use a semi black you might be able to transition lighter through the browns once you're bored of it, but I dunno, as I've never tried it myself. You might just end up looking like variegated yarn, though. *wonders* But as long as you do a good job covering all your hair it shouldn't be blotchy. If you have a lot of hair, you might need two boxes just in case. ------------- More awesome than a manatee! |

I have waist length, curly hair which I've been dying permenant black for years. Probably because my mother did it all her life and as soon as the first white hair showed up (at 18) I started dying it. First off, the perm color is very damaging to your hair, it splits my ends and dries my hair out badly. I neer realized how bad, until my hair just wasnt growing anymore, was tangling really badly, and as breaking off. I recently aquired a client (I'm a publicist) who owns a salon in NYC (Salon Zoia...it's in the east village) ( http://salonzoia.image411.com - http://salonzoia.image411.com ) and she gave me a free hair makover. She told me to stop coloring my hair with perm color because i was causing tons of damage, and she said to especially stop using a dark black, because it was making me look older (i'm in early 30's). She said Brown's are softer on your featured. I can go with that now, becuase I AM older...but when I was younger in my NYC heyday, the pitch black head of hair was the thing. Now I'm going to go with the dark brown with sublte highlights (done in the salon) to give my hair movement and it looks awesome. Her colorist Scott, is a miracle worker (not to mention funny as well) and he showed me hwo I could cover my whites and get a rich dark color without totally frying my hair, which is what a lot of the perm colors do. He also said I could use rinses and henna rinses w/out damaging my hair. Hope this helped some

AWESOME!!!! THanks a bunch for all that info... My bf is into the whole dark hair almost vampire look thing.. hehe Guess I'm giving into his fantasy... LOL I'm glad I'm in the mood for something crazy.. LOL I'm totally going black this weekend... YAY I'm going with the semi-perm colour.. and hope its not too bad on my hair.. as it's pretty long too and I don't want to mess it up.. YAY... I'll let you all know how it goes!!! Thats not neccesarily true. It also depends on the volume peroxide you use. You can use anywhere from 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 or high lift in any color from black to blonde. I dyed it BLACK!!!!!! YAY.. I'm totally liking the dark colour... but finding it wierd... cause I have like a redish highlight thing happening where some of my hair obviously didn't take the colour... Why would it do that?.. ANYWAYS..LOL maybe I should have left it on longer that the 15minutes if I wanted that TOTAL deep black look? Or maybe my hairs just wierd.. LOL Either way I'm loving it!! The red highlight situation is more likely a result of the hair not being completely covered with the color. when you go lighter, this is often not as noticeable. However, when you go darker, it's very easy to miss spots. When I went back to my natural color (black), I missed several spots. If you are gonna risk the permanent thing, use the Garnier Nutrisse box I post earlier. I swear, it is the darkest darkest vampy black. I've tried them all. Don't choose something like Blue black or "soft" or "natural" black because it'll end up lighter. I hope you want your hair black for a long long time. This stuff stays, if you want it off for another color then your hair will suffer like mine. |

I didn't end up doing the permanent thing.. I decided to just go out and get another box of the semi permanent colourSpa moisture Actif in Ebony today seen as how it's been a while and I wanted to go black before school again. Anywho... I'm planning on doing it myself this time.. my buddy freaked me out too much with her... OH man... Hmmmm... Ummmmm's.... LOL I couldn't handle it... I re-dyed my hair black a couple of days ago.. I used EXACLY the same semi permanent dye as before and my hair came out tonnes darker.. lol I mean I'm really happy... just thought it was kinda wierd..:P hope everyone's having swell hair days..:D ------------- ...THere's TOO much blood in my Caffeine System... |
