Hi, I have dirty blonde hair which I have been highlighting myself (pulling through a cap and applying a highlighter) with much success for years. But, the past two times that I have tried, most of the highlightiing didn't take. I think I have been in denial and realize that I have more greys than I thought. Can I highlight with a permanent color (that is pull through a cap and apply an actual color? Or, are the wash in colors that wash out in 28 or so shampoos reliable? Any help is greatly appreciated!! I hate this!!

Why not take advantage of those grey hairs and use a semi or demi permanent color and give them a soft golden tone and you now have your own natural highlights.....

Yes, but wouldn't the highlighted sections take on strange tones if I used a temp. color?
