My hair is dyed a dark brown almost black color. It really might as well be black, and it's got a red tint to, when it's in the light. I want it lightened a little so it looks more brunette, and I like highlights. I hate for my hair to be all one color, how boring... Does anyone have any experience with L'Oreal Execellence Cremelights... they say they are formulated for color treated hair. How do you think this would turn out, especially with the red tint in my hair... My hair was dyed with L'Oreal Preference if that makes a difference... And does anyone know the price of the cremelights?? Thanks guys

What color highlights do you want? Honestly, for hair as dark as yours, you may want to seek a professional to do it for you. Depending on how light you want the highlights, your hair will go through alot of funky color stages. And it may even need double processing, especially since it has red tones in it.

However, if you are determined to do it at home, you could just go a shade or two lighter. I'm unfamiliar with the brand that you mentioned, but just stay away from the brush-on highlighting kits! Those are a mess for those with dark hair! A cap, or foil is best.

A cap would be easier for you though, if you have no experience with foil.

Try the clairol hair painting in copper and buy a cap at sally's beauty supply store.

A copper would be best for your hair tone.
