Can you buy professional hair dye at home to color your hair, and if so, is this a really stupid idea? I'd like to dye my hair myself, but I don't want to use regular hair dye. Can you take a course just to learn how to use the professional products for this purpose? I mean, I don't want to be a stylist, I just want to be able to dye my hair. Any ideas?

If you have a beautician friend, you can always have him/her pick up professional color at a supply company. The next closest thing is going down to Sallys' Beauty Supply.
I did this last weekend and the gals that work there are super-helpful. You buy your color and the developer seperate and you mix it just before applying, it's really simple. If you have dark hair, they have hi-lift colors that work really well. You can even buy hilighting kits there.
Basically, you choose your color, i went with Wella Color Charm, they also have L'Oreal and a few others. For shoulder length hair, you'll only need 1 box of color. The price is about 3.99 for 1 box. Then you'll need to buy a bottle of 20 volume developer (1.99). Buy a plastic bottle to mix the color and developer in; the color box tells you how much to mix. Usually 3 ounces of developer to each box of color. You can buy most of the same colors in semi-permanent if you're worried about it coming out wrong. Or, you can use 10 volume developer instead of 20 and make a demi-permanent color that will last roughly twice as long as semi-permanent. Talk to whover is working there and they will help you fgure out the color you want and make sure you have all your supplies (including gloves).
Hope this helps a bit and i can say that my hair looks better than when i colored with drugstore kits. OH! Don't forget to buy a deep treatment to use after coloring, this is very important.
Good luck!

Great question Just like you Ive been looking for a course on hair color only, but have never found one that just did a hair color for hobbyist. You had to take a full course for beuticians.I hope this changes there are many vocational schools that ofer automotive courses for hobbists.I would love to see the cosmotology schools follow suit.

Hi, I'm the Veronica who posted this. But since there are two of us I guess we should probably use the first initial of our last name if we want to avoid confusion. I don't really care, I mean, as long as you don't write anything crazy or insulting. I didn't even realize there was another Veronica on here.

I think the process is the almost the same with drugstore and professional. Beside you are getting the better quality kind instead of the mass product kind.
