I have naturally dark brown hair that is colored a medium brown w/ golden highlights throughout. I'm in a bit of a financial pinch, so, I was wondering if you know if it's possible to do my own root touch up at home, as opposed to going to the salon. My concern is that I'll get the dye on the highlights and totally mess the whole thing up. Does anyone know how I can touch up the roots, without harming the highlights? Also, would you recommend any particular brand to use? Any advice is much appreciated!

Thx.

You should ask for someone to help you do your roots. What is very important is that you rince the color with cold water. I know how hard it is but you'll be able to prevent the hightlights from absorbing the color. Do a little shampoo after that and it should be ok.

Good luck!

Make sure you don't let the dye touch anything but the new growth. If you're very careful in making sure the duye doesn't drip onto the highlighted hair, toy should be fine. As far as a brnd recommmendation, I think that Preference is a good product. Make sure to choose a color that will match well. Good luck with it!

Korsakhovatt3 or Susan W, if you have a moment, I'm interested in what your advice on this matter would be. You seem to be rather knowledgeable about home coloring. I, myself, have always gone to a salon for my color. I would really love to 'attempt' to do a root touch-up at home, but, because I have highlights, I'm very afraid that I might cover or ruin them. My color and highlights cost me a small fortune, so, I would hate to ruin it.
Thanks so much!
