This is for anyone who can help me. I have had my hair colored professionally twice in three weeks and now have a burgandy color wi th orange towards the front.(it was blonder there and took the color differently.) I was going for a medium auburn color. That's my natural haircolor, but it had become bleached out and I wanted to go back to it. I have read alot of the posts here and was wondering if I go with a semi- permanent haircolor in an ash tone if it would help. Any suggestions would be great. I have tried Prell to help wash out some of the color, but it is a really drying shampoo. Even if it lightens up, it is still not the right color....

Are you doing it yourself? Go to a beauty supply shop, don't just buy something from the drug store that doesn't tell you what base color is in it.

Well, you could try a dye with a green base....The green base will probably make the burgundy go more dark brown, and counter the orange to a lighter brown...but the orange will probably still be a shade lighter than the burgundy will come out, and the burgundy may come out more black. It's always risky!

Or you could do what many here do, which is use ColorFix. I haven't personally tried it, but your hair will probably come out a strange shade of yellow or orange, then you will have to dye it again. If you're doing this yourself, remember that violet bases counter yellow hair, and green bases counter orange hair. You will have to see which color your hair comes out after colorfix, then slap on a hat and go buy the right product to fix it. Don't put green in yellow hair or you'll get green.

Any chance you could go to a salon and ask them to fix it? It would be the least risky route, because if it doesn't come out looking normal, they will have to fix it and get it right for free.

Thanks for the advice. I want to try colorfix, but I'm afraid my hair will be too damaged and break-off. It was pretty healthy before and that's probably why it's still okay now.

To get the right colorbase do you have to go to Sally's? Can they help you make the right choice.

Thanks again for taking the time.

You need to go back to the professional colorist, if at all possible. If you don't trust or like that person anymore, and you can afford it, find a better one (preferably with references from people you know) who has experience in color correction.

Good luck and please let us know how it goes.

If you use colorfix do you have to redye your hair to its "natural color"after it takes the permanent color out? (does that make sense?) Also does anyone know a good conditioner?

Thanks

You will almost always have to recolor after color remover...and you may have to use the color remover more than once.
I'm with Elissa.
