| Hi! I have been bleaching my medium-to-dark brown hair for over a year now, and I'm ready to get rid of the blonde! Never had a problem bleaching at home, and my hair doesn't seem to be overly damaged. I do need to bleach the roots again to have a head of hair that is all the same color. I want to go back to a shade that is close to normal for me, but don't know how to do it(someone I know tried to go from blonde to mahogany and ended up with purple hair...). Any tips? |

You will probably have to dye it more than once. Depending on how blonde your hair is...is it yellow, or white? If it's white you will have some difficulty...you may have to choose a brown with an orange base and a brown with a green base and be prepared to use one, then the other once your hair is dry to get an overall brown, and you may have to re-do it every couple of months when your hair fades. (I did that on my white hair, it will fade pretty quick and may start to look orange, peach, pink, green, so you will probably have to re-do it every couple of months until it's all grown out and cut off....it's more risky to try to go dark on white hair). If all of your hair is yellow, choose a brown with a violet shade and you should be okay on the first try. You may still have to re-do in 4 or months, but that's not so bad. Your re-do rate won't be very high if your hair is still yellow. I agree with you about doing your roots blonde first so all of your hair is the same starting color. I suggest that you not bleach your roots again. You've got some virgin growth there, and that's your goal. Processing it will only prolong your wait to get back to natural hair. Go to a salon and have them put some natural-colored streaks in your colored part. This will greatly minimize the "roots" effect. -------------

How do you bleach your root area to blonde my hair is only dark at this area? The rest of the hair is fine a nice blonde just need to touch up my roots. Please help i'm desperate. ------------- |

You don't. Every chemical process you do on your hair damages it, and the damage is cumulative. Many women have hair that is in an "okay" condition, but find that one more treatment is too much, and they end up cutting off damaged hair. If you color carefully or always wear your hair short, you may never reach the point where you suddenly realize your hair is destroyed. But you need to make coloring and perming decisions carefully if you value the health of your hair. -------------

| For starters...I used to use Garnier Nutrisse Lightener, but they don''t make it anymore(this time I used Clairol Born Blonde, which is scary cuz it''s BLUE...but it left my hair very dry and strawlike, even with heavy conditioning after. But it did lighten like it was supposed to!). Then, I apply LOTS of conditioner afterwards and leave it on for at least half an hour. Just did my roots, and now that I am all one color, I need to know if I should use a semi-permanent or permanent color to re-brown. The Loreal experts recommended a combination of permanent colors...but I''m scared to death to use it! On the other hand, I''m worried about a semipermanent color fading into weirdness. Also, I can''t wait the recommended 14 days after bleaching to color because my hair grows too fast...how soon is safe to color? |
