Until last Wednesday I was a platinum blonde, when I decided to go dark. I did it at the salon, and was extremely pleased with the results... ...until a few days later. It has faded SO fast, and the colorist warned me it would happen, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. I want back the rich chocolate brown colour I had the day it was done! What I'm wondering is, can I just dye it from a box at home, and if so, how long do I need to wait before I do this? I've never coloured my hair at home before, so any help would be great! Also, I have several friends who have had their brown hair turn green-ish, when dyed ontop of blonde. How can I prevent this from happening? I've got a whole ton of products for brown coloured hair (shampoo, conditioner, treatment), and I'm trying to wash it less to prevent fading. HELP! Thank you! |

| Be very careful when you do this. It's a tricky thing to do a tintback from ultra blonde to dark brunette. It's not a pretty sight in the long run. Usually don't do a permanent color, it's damaging to delicate bleached hair, so go with a semi or demi permanent color like L'oreal Casting or Natural Instincts by Clairol, but sometimes they fade too quickly. I think Garnier Nutrisse is pretty gentle and always do the job. Try one of the medium browns. Also, avoid ash based browns because they can turn green on blonde hair when fading. It's recommended to do tintback gradually -- copper dye and then brown dye for better fading quality. Good luck! |

ok did ure stylist fill it fist.. it dosnt sound like it.. have her go and repigment the hair.. if she does that the hair should not fade..and useing a semi is a good idea.. but if u ever want to bleech its hard to get the color out. ------------- Kris |

I'm in Canada, actually. I guess I should be more specific, I wasn't all-over bleached blonde, it was the result of years and years (like 7) of highlighting it blonde. The brown colour is still in my hair, it's just that the highlights and such are coming through. If I use a semi like Natural Instincts or something, I'm just hoping it will brighten up the colour, and increase the pigmentation of it. The stylist did mention it may take a couple of dye-jobs for the colour to hold really well. |

Hi Guy's ...her stylist did fill it first, otherwise it wouldn't have been a beautiful Chocolate brown when she left the Salon. It's not uncommon, at all, that a color (No matter what is used), will fade the first ime tinted back. I agree that a semi should be used for tint backs. Personal note in my experience...for tint backs... Redken Shades under the dryer Lasts quite well, compared to other things I've tried. | Just wanted to say (if anyone cares!) that I dyed it tonight! I used Natural Instincts in Nutmeg, and I totally love it. I've never dyed my hair myself before, but it was relatively easy. I'm not quite sure how even the colour is throughout the underneath part of the back, but since it was just a touch-up colour, I don't really care! Hopefully the colour will hold this time!
