I was told that I naturally have red tones in my hair already, but don't want red tones to show. My hair is dark brown naturally and everytime I dye it any light brown, it always ends up orangy.
If I use an ash brown, will it work ok? But I also have highlights, but they are a little golden themselves. How will the ash come out on the highlights, even though they are golden too, but is still blonde?

To counter orange that comes out, you need to use a dye with a green base. This may however put a slight greenish cast on your blonde highlights. You should have this done at a salon since this is a complicated job.

Most dyes come with 20 v developer thats able to lift one or two levels. Because you have dark hair( level 2 or 3), you are not going to be able to achieve light brown( level 6) with 20 v, I doubt any volume of peroxide will be able to lift you to light brown.
Your probably going to have to bleach to orange stage and then tint with a neutral level 6 or an ash 6. I would not pull the color through, just bleach and tint the roots.
