I've heard & read that olive oil mixed with egg is great for hair; what about just olive oil?

Has anyone done this?

Do you just slop olive oil in your hair and laze about for the afternoon? should you heat it? Is it a moisturizing treatment? will it strip color? and other related questions as well! Any experiences to share?

PS (can't do the egg bit due to egg farm reservations)

Yes it's good for your hair, but it can darken your color. You wouldn't just slop it on though, lol.. rub some between your hands and run it through your hair just until the strands start to seperate - you don't wanna be dripping oil, just lightly coated. Cover your head with a shower cap or saran wrap afterwards to seal in the heat, and wait an hour or more. When you are ready to wash, add some shampoo diluted with water to your hair *before* you wet your hair, it'll be easier to wash out that way.

I've done this before with nice results, but olive oil is a pretty heavy oil, jojoba or sweet almond oil work better for this IMO, and they won't darken color. I also use a couple drops of jojoba oil on my ends before styling, keeps it nice and soft. Look for AnaisSatin's posts, she has a link to her website in her signature, it has lots of great info about oiling and other stuff; I learned a lot from it. :)

its very good for your hair...but is extremely hard to wash out..also-- be careful because if it gets into your hairline or face you may be prone to breaking out.
