OK, is it just me or is anyone else dying to have this? Is Plastikhaar comparable?
::wringing hands:: Who here among us will be the first to get it? Mwahahahaha!
The colors they offer totally rock. What is the length? Does it come in a weft? Can you make strands out of it? Can you shrinkie it? How much is it in US dollars because I don't know francs from shinola? What's a 25mm wave and what's a 50mm wave? How come I am dying to know all this all the time?
gotta have it gotta have it gotta have it!!!!

I'm obsessed, too. Gotta find out a little more about the length, textures, and such, but I'd be so happy to kiss the human-hair saga good-bye once and for all.
What I need to figure out are the styling issues. People have mentioned "steaming" or using a steamer to touch up the ends when they get ratty. Do you have any idea what this involves? I also understand it can be blow-dried into shape, but you have to know what you're doing (still confused about this point).
I'm fairly certain you can use synth hair with Shrinkies though. Has anyone mentioned this on Quinnster's?
Off to piece together the rest of the puzzle....

I hear you ladies...Ive been wearing human hair extensions for about 4 years now and it seems like an ongoing quest to find good hair. It would be great to say bye bye to the human hair frustrations and the COST! Ive been a poster on the quinnster board for a long time & Ive been eyeballing the synthetic for some time now but just in the past few weeks my curiosity is peaking! Im trying to find some of the same answers... as far as textures & curls, how the different brands compare, if you can blowdry curl etc.... if I find any info I will post it here. Here is something about the plastikhaar curl patterns that you may be interested in. Look further down the post and there is a picture of the different curls. http://p080.ezboard.com/fhair18356frm10.showMessage?topicID=2746.topic - http://p080.ezboard.com/fhair18356frm10.showMessage?topicID=2746.topic

That link is so helpful, Sherrie--thank you, thank you! I had no idea there were that many textures available. I'm having a hard time envisioning how they'd look on a whole head, though--need to give that more thought.
To answer an earlier question of amm's, I think you can use synth with shrinkies: http://p080.ezboard.com/fhair18356frm6.showMessage?topicID=897.topic - http://p080.ezboard.com/fhair18356frm6.showMessage?topicID=897.topic

oh....if you look at plastikhaar website (not her online store) look under the hair extensions category...traditional and tied in techniques youll see pictures of some of the different curls...unfortunately theres no description of what size curl is in each picture. But I ll bet if you emailed her she'd tell you. Here is that link: http://www.plastikhaar.ch/flash/index.php?lan=en - http://www.plastikhaar.ch/flash/index.php?lan=en

That answered two questions right away. I can do the shrinkies with it. COOL!
That curl link is awesome. I'm bookmarking that...it's just what I was wanting. That's the cool thing about this synth, what you see is what you get and it seems to be the same all the time and not all these variations like "human" hair. Don't you hate that about some of these hair sites? They all use the same photos and they're selling it with different types of hair.
I'm sure I'll be trying this. Now it's just a matter of deciding what kind, where to get it and maybe hookin' up with ya'all and seeing if you wanna do a group thing for cheaper shipping?

I just converted the price. $9.50 a pack USD? Is that right? Are you guys sure this is good? I mean, I've seen 10 dollar hair and it blows. We're talking the kanekalon silky monofibre is the stuff we want for natural looking hair, right? And how come the 22mm wave is not an option when you pull down the menu? The plastikhaar gal says its available but I don't see it.

I agree, I'd want to try out Dome or Prohair!
I'm also willing to go for a group shipment of either, if possible :) Dome shipping costs are crazy-high for just one pack o.O
I was pretty curious about the kanekalon, too, so the other day I went to the local beauty supply stores ...and that made me wonder - is all "kanekalon" the same? Or made by the same company at least? *hrm* Because the Kanekalon silky monofibre stuff that I saw ...looked noticibly fake. Hmm O.o *ponder*
(also, i've noticed that kanekalon is the same name/ brand that Plastikhaar has on the site?)

Yeah, I don't think beauty-supply Kanekalon is what you want to use. Some have said it looks rough in the bag but straightens out. Even so, I would stick with Dome, or Prostyles (perhaps Trimco, Hair Raiser, and Stargazer are also possibilities, but I haven't heard many reviews on those). I believe Plastikhaar's Kanekalon is higher-quality than the beauty-supply-store kind. But what do I know?
This is what Kelly Lees said: "Dome and Prostyles are pretty much the same, it looks it on the pictures. I personally use Dome, it's great! Plastikhaar is also good, but not quite the same quality, it takes a little more TLC to keep it good and if you keep it long it can tangle a bit" That said, Kelly's hair in that photo is half Dome, half Plastikhaar, and you'd never know it wasn't the same brand. It all looks so gorgeous.
I think the major issue with all of this hair is how to style it once it's gnarly. Apparently, ProStyles smells better than the rest (I have no idea what that means, although some have complained that synth hair smells like doll's hair??). Anyway, I'm going to post about steaming/blowdrying the ends on Quinnster's, and hopefully someone will give me a step-by-step. Until then, here's the care instructions for synth from Quinnster's:
Taking Care of 'em.. You can wash and brush loose extensions like real hair, although it's a good idea to lay off the heavy conditioners, which may just give you greasy roots and will do bugger-all for your plastic hair. As stupid as it sounds, rinsing through your extensions with a dilute mixture of fabric softener will make them look and feel much better. If you get an itchy head, washing your hair does help. To keep your hair tangle-free, it's best to brush your hair -every day-, as tedious as that might be. Otherwise it'll start looking skanky pretty quickly. Any silicon-based shine sprays are ideal for helping keep the tangles at bay - just give your hair a liberal dowsing and brush it through. This might get expensive, though, so have a look through your local yellow pages for salons in your area which deal with Dome, who make a spray specifically for loose monofilament hair. Alternatively, look in any ethnic/afro hair shops, and you'll probably find that their braid sprays are very much the same as shine sprays, and a lot cheaper too. Even the best cared-for extensions will get tatty at the ends. You can restore them to their original shiny state by blow-drying the ends around a bristle hairbrush. Keep the hair and the heat moving to avoid melting the hair into a single lump! On looking after extensions, Atropa says: "It took me years to figure out how to blow dry the ends "neat" again. A girl at Ad Hoc in London told me once, but I missed the part about brushing it properly first and pulling it straight with a brush while blow drying, so it had no effect. Done right it can really work wonders on worn out and frayed ends and make the hair almost look new again. This is a bit tricky to do by yourself (especially if you have really long extensions) so it's best to ask someone else to do it for you."

Whew.... So much bouncing back and forth between sites. OK, here's more info from Kelly Lees (bracketed comments are mine):
For extra long hair Prostyles do a 48in end to end but only in the straight stuff [she talking about doubled over synth with pinchbraids; this doesn't apply to Shinks and can't be done with human hair. I imagine you wouldn't want to double over the wavy because the textures would be going every which way?]. Plastkhaar do the longest hair i've seen! Dome is my favourite but it's pretty short in comparison.
Hi, The hair [in her photo] is Dome Classic, all their hair comes with a wave, if you want it straighter you can wash it and blowdry on a low heat.
You can use heated rollers on it but not a curling tong.
I much prefer t use this hair to human hair, it's a lot easier to handle and is more reliable quality wise...often with human hair it starts to feel gross after a few washes.
You only need about 2 packs of the stuff, i have really thick hair and only needed that much.
The length of the hair i would say is just below the shoulders when doubled over, but i lengthen it by making one end 1/3rd longer than the other when i put it in.
Plastikhaar's hair is much longer, as you can see it easily reaches the bottom of my back.
Kelly

well I dont know much about synthetic but I have to say that in all the time Ive been posting on quinnsters board plastikhaar has always got great reviews. Kelly Lees was the first Ive seen that says it isnt quite as good as dome or proystyles, although that may just be a personal preference. And yes there is a price difference between these brands so Im not sure if your just paying for the name or if there really is a quality difference. Will have to ask more questions!! Has anyone ever heard of Thermofiber? Its synthetic hair that apparently looks and feels like human hair, and you can blowdry curl with iron etc.... I seen it awhile back a few people said oh yeah its great stuff but then the threads(quinnsters) just died out. I was trying to find out where to buy the stuff but never found out.

Hey Sherrie, that's a good point: I've also heard consistently wonderful things about Plastikhaar too, so it may indeed be a preference thing. I just placed an order with her for a fall (not loose), and she was wonderful to deal with via email, so I'm very optimistic about them. Perhaps someone else will give their opinion on how it compares with Dome or ProStyles.

heya all
jenn liked me here so i guess i just answer some of your questions : )
ok, about the hairquality:
im buying my hair directly from the manufacturer. therefore our prices are very low compared to dome or prostyle. (good price doesnt meen bad quality thou ; ) ) i know these brands very well too. now: my hair supplier imports the kanekalon from japan and curls the stuff or makes wigs and hairpieces. they DONT actually produce the hair so they have several kanekalon suppliers. some have these colours some others, thats why i have so many colours as my supplier collects them all from japan. dome and prostyle also have their own asian supplier, but only one i guess thats why they have such a small colour range. so actually its really the same stuff! BUT some colours can be different as the texture depens on what japan manufacturar it is. so yes, there are some shades wich are slightly not as good as other colours are. i really dont know why... but im going to asia in february and will be meeting my supplier! guess i know more about that whole issure by then : )
now about the curls:
at order (big order) ANY sizes of curls are avaible.. 3mm, 5mm 7mm 55mm 43mm whatever you want! for me 50mm and 28mm are the best to keep in stock, 50mm is more wavy thats why i call it wave, its like the dome or prostyle, it has a natural kind of wave. the 28mm is more curly but still very natural.
so if you want anything else then 500mm/28mm i can order that for you! min. order quant. is 5 pce each style and colour and you'll have to wait a couple of weeks. i always have pending orders in asia but it takes time to shipp the stuff : ))
well i hope that makes this issue more clear. im working with synth hair for many years. and i must say im very satisfied with my own hairbrand. if you wanna try and see it before you order: drop me a mail and i will send you some samples
cheers to all!!

Hmm ..another question about the Dome hair :)
I was looking around on their website, (i'm thisclose to just placing an order anyhow! :D), but under the "Hair Color Products -> Natural colors" menu ..it has "Prolin" listed?
Does anyone know that the prolin is? Is it a hair colouring for the pre-made dome hair? Or is it already-coloured dome hair?
Hrm :\ ....i wouldn't mind it if it were already pre- blended ..that "honey" colour at the bottom is so pretty :)

I thought Prolin were the enhancer strips, the ones you would use for streaks/highlights, as opposed to the whole head (monofibre). I don't think it's a dye product; they're strips that can be used to create highlights, rather than dyeing your own hair.
I would imagine you could blend your own Dome monofibre; they really don't have the greatest color selection, imo. Plastikhaar has tons of colors, including blends, and I don't know about Prostyles; I'm still trying to get in touch with them.
|
Posted By: Aeone

Well, I technically don't care toooo much about the lack of colour selection that Dome has - If i'm going to try something out, most of the time, I prefer going with the best that I can get :)
Sooo ...I am pretty much going to try to get my hands on all 3 of them ..and decide for myself :p

dome prolin
actually i really dont see the point to buy prolin? ive had a bid discussion about this with the dome sales assistance... i did ones and i was so dissapointed! theres no quality or shape difference between the classic dome or that prolin stuff! and its only 30g each bag instead of 100g!!! and therefore its far too expensiv. but yes the proline stuff is machine blended.
but i love the wavy dome hair. the curls are very nice! i just a shame the hairs so short : /
as for blended hair, if you find any combination that you want just let me know. i can order that for you. they do machine blending with all colours i have avaible : ) so any colour avaible

Yeah, I think Plastikhaar is getting my vote as well. The price is right and there's such a nice selection of waves and color. Can't wait to get my samples, decide the mm wave I want and then make an order!
