Hey everyone, I recently got extensions put in, they were glued in and came in like a big long line of hair like a grass skirt, sorry no idea how better to explain them!! The man glued sections into my own hair and i loved the look afterwards!! Only problem is when they came out they pulled half my hair out aswell!! Now i have about half the amount of hair i started with!! But am addicted to the look it gave me!! So now im looking for advice on extensions that are 'actually' good, ive heard some horror stories about the different methods of putting them in, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!! |

Read the postings on shrinkies and microlinks. Sorry about your hair coming out  . I know what you mean about this hair thing getting addicting; I needed help though when I was 3 - my poor, poor barbie dolls.------------- |

Welcome, Clairey. The "grass skirt" you're referring to is a weft, and although they work OK for some people, they're certainly not for everyone. The alternative is strand-by-stand, or individuals (also known as interlocking), and there are dozens of ways to do those. Glue can be very damaging, too, especially if your hair is thin or fragile. I second what Kimbearly said: You should search the last few months' worth of threads, and in particular look for information on Shrinkies, extendtubes, or pinchbraids (the least damaging methods, imo). clairey, that long looking line of hair is a weft. It sounds like you had glue bonded wefts put in. Your natural hair does shed wihile in extension and doesn't fall because its trapped in the bond, so youll see alot of hair coming out when the extensions are removed, and after having them in you tend to forget how thin your natural hair actually was without extensions. But... if when removing them you are feeling alot of hair being pulled out...thats not right! You have to be very careful and patient with removal so you dont damage hair. Sounds to me like they werent removed properly or carefully, weft bonding or removal should not pull out half your hair. Ive dont weft bonding for years and never had a problem with pulling out natural hair with removal. If done correctly the weft removal should slide out quite easily. Alot of people have experienced more damage with glue methods of extensions, I personally havent had much damage, some yes.. all extesnions do some damage I believe, but maybe Ive been lucky and VERY careful with my applications and methods?? | Hi there chick, I've had glue bonds in before and I've found that that has happened to my hair, not only when I've taken it out but when its actually been in my head. I've tried and tested shrinkies and they're great so you should try them. The comment that you actually forget how thin your own hair was when you take out the extension hair is also too true, once you start with extensions you can't stop !!! xx |
