My own hair is just past my shoulders, I guess. It's longer in the back as it's in sort of a "v" shape cut. Very thin, fine and damaged, though.
Thanks, Bridget! I have a multitude of hair in. I have various shades, textures, colors and brands in with the lengths ranging from 18-24". I personally do not like stick straight hair but I don't mind it here and there and I do wear some as highlights. The hair I'm wearing right now is hair I acquired when I had a stylist put them in last March (I do not know what brand they are). I also have in a brand called Y2k which I've heard tangling horror stories about. I bought it locally and don't know where to find it online. It's supposedly Remy but who knows. It's worked fine for me and the color is freakin beautiful. I have in 6 strands of very dark dark brown 22" bodywave Cinderella hair. I also have in Glamour Hair's silky straight in #27 as highlights, Glamour Hair's french refined in 18/22 blend and #12 as lowlights, Hairpiece.com's 909 body wave in light blonde is scattered throughout also. I have pounds and pounds of hair that I use and frequently change out. I can have up to 10 different types, lengths and colors in at one time and I am constantly adding and changing. They are all various blends of blondes and browns with copper/red highlights. Some hair sellers will tell you that you can't blends textures like this. Bah! I have done it with great success and it's really just a matter of personal preference and what you envision your hair to look like. Right now I have this huge mass of wavy hair that looks like something out of a magazine. People stop me all the time and I am proud to say they're extensions and that I do them myself. They're totally blown away.
Some hair is definitely better than others and is standing the test of time. I have some hair that I actually like but others here have tried it and not liked it a bit. Yes, I go through what everyone else does. It's sore after maintenance and it can look stringy between a good brushing and it sweeps across the fabric on the back of my shirt and gets mussed and can get dull and dry and flyaway sometimes. Products and TLC put it right back into something manageable.
There's no class for shrinkies. The beauty of them is that they're so so easy, you really don't need a course for it.
Here's some pics for fun. This is what my hair looks like today. Some of Kristin's fun colors of various reds and pinks and purples can be seen, too! I recommend getting some. They are very fun and affordable!

Here's the Glamour Hair's 18/22 blend in 22" French Refined. I bashed another batch previously but I'm actually happy with this order so far. The pictures above contains this very shiny, bright hair. I put it in last night. I used a straight iron on it today for some unknown reason. Just playing, I guess.

Here's the same hair now made into tips:

PS: This is a complete do-it-yourself install (I do not go to a stylist) and it is done with shrinkies.

Amm-- you are so beautiful! Your hair is awesome!!! You know, I was considering taking a class in March for the Hairlocs cert. ($1,500). Only because I thought that method was the best, as far as less damage, no heat, no glue, bla bla, but now learning about shrinkies, I'm just blown away. I recently got my cos. license but I'm not working at a salon, just hi-lights & stuff out of my house... (just had me a baby... 7wks, Nolan). But the main reason I went into this world of hair is because of extensions... I want them, and I want to do them!! W/a great passion! To say the least, I won't be forking out 1500 for this Hairlocs course... So please, keep me posted on your shrinkies and I hope these lil' things will be a new page for us extension lovers!

Beautiful Hair Amm, are you a model by chance? Thanks for showing the bonded hair pictures because I was wondering how thick to make them. Can't wait to show you guys pictures with my questionable Ebay hair and the cool red from Kristen. Taking about models; Jenny and Kristen look like them too. You girls are so pretty.

Thanks Jenny! Yeah, 24"... two full feet of hair. Yaaahooo! And yeah, I know I know... it'll be hard to part with the human hair (hahaha, is that a pun?). I'm in turmoil about it but I'm just tired of all the surprises with human hair.
Bridget, congrats on your new baby. Hairlocs course is a waste of money. Then you have to buy Hairlocs rings (made of copper and they eat human hair cuticle) and Hairlocs hair (which is usually crap) and you're giving all your hard-earned money away to Hairlocs coporation before you even make any. An extentube kit over on hairpiece.com will save you almost the entire cost of an entire Hairlocs course and set you up in biz right away. It's the exact same concept, only different rings. BETTER rings!
Yes, I like shrinkies but I also like the microring method too and I think extentubes are the best out there right now.
Kimbearly, LOL, no I'm not a model. So not even close to being one but thank you! Can't wait to see how your strands turn out.

LOL! Thanks for the compliment on my pic, Kimbearly, but the photo is definitely not me! It's an old photo of Debbie Harry I found online. I didn't have an icon for so long and I have no decent pics of myself, so I uploaded this one. I've always liked Debbie (her style and her bleached-blonde hair), so I just chose her. Unfortunately, I'm not half as good-looking as she is, though!
Soon, hopefully, I will have photos of me with my new (synth?) hair and will post them. I might just keep this Debbie icon, though, since people might think I actually look like that, and it'd be cool to be that hot (even if it is only in cyberpace, LOL)....

Hi, Im trying to decide whether to use French Defined or Deep Wave. My hair is naturally wavy -> curly based on humidity (not alot here in Michigan currently!)
Right now the tossup is between buying two wefts of one or one of each to mix it up a bit.
Can you take a photo of the hair once its been washed and dries naturally? Is that a weird request? I think I'll be using Bohyme.

Welcome, Rose! Do you in Detroit, by any chance? (Just asking 'cause I've been there several times. And your dreads are sweet! I love the colors.
I don't know much about wavy hair, so I'll let others advise you on that one, but just wanted to say hello.

Amm: Thos colors look amazing together, I like how you mix the textures too.
Jenny: I keep looking at your icon thinking "God, that girl looks just like a young Debbie Harry" . I fantasize that I will run in to her here on the street and will drop to my knees and bow. Pathetic, but have been a huge fan since the 70's.

That's funny 'cause I've seen Debby Harry around town a couple of times. I've always thought she was great.
I also really like (just hair-wise, not music wise) that girl from the band Berlin. I saw her on Bands Reunited or something, and her hair was the bomb--she looks amazingly good, like she's 20 years old or something. I'm quite certain the black underlayer in her hair is extensions. :)

Hello, I am in Ann Arbor though I got my dreads installed IN Detroit, the downtown area. Ann Arbor is home to UofMichigan, a great city to live, picked no.2 best place for women to live by Utne Magazine (I think) a year or two ago.

Cool. I've never been to Ann Arbor, although I've been to D-Town many times now, and I think it's a real fun place.
There's a girl in Royal Oak, by the way, who does amazing dreads and other hair creations--Pink Envy's her name. I've never met her, but I've always admired her work. Did she do your dreads, by any chance? (Just curious.)

Oh Ammmmmmmmmm, where are ya girl? I'm the one you don't know how to respond to. I have Hairlocs and was wondering where to purchase supplies to do my own maintenance. Jenny suggested quite a few web sites, however, they all say in small print that they don't sell to the public and that you have to be a licensed beautician. Got any ideas? Thanks I had 50 new locks put in yesterday and I have already lost about 3 or 4. I'm thinkin I need to try another method because these copper bonds are just not staying in my hair.

Jenny, about the lighter colored extensions... I agree with you, mine were blonde too.
the thread I posted about animal hair... I'm sure the white belly hair could be dyed blonde and maybe be better than lifting so many shades on the Asian... what do you think?

Lisa: Again, all you need to do is order the extendtube kit from hairpiece.com: http://www.hairpiece.com/product.asp?pf_id=APE151 - http://www.hairpiece.com/product.asp?pf_id=APE151 They absolutely sell to the public, and if you've seen notices about having to be a stylist to get supplies (although I don't see one on that page), it's probably there for insurance purposes because they don't want to be responsible if something goes wrong. Again, they sell to anyone; I've ordered from them many times, and I'm not a stylist. All of the product links I've provided on the "Links 101" thread are available for home use (except perhaps ProStyles synthetic hair--the jury's still out on that one). Good luck!
Bridget: One of the main reasons I want to switch to synth is because I'm unhappy with the human hair I've been getting. I've tried tons of different brands, and I just don't think the quality is what it should be given what I'm paying (and I'm usually using 613, which, again, doesn't seem to be as high quality as the dark hair I've used).
As far as the animal hair, I'm sure some of these companies throw that into the mix sometimes (how would we know?). But I do think most of it's just Asian hair that's been processed, and processed, and processed within an inch of its life. There was a big discussion about using horsetail on Quinn's awhile back, and the consensus (although it's beautiful, superthick, long hair) is that it's way too coarse for human beings. (One girl had them in as extensions and had to take them out because they were scratching up her back like mad!)

Also, if you don't want to shell out a bunch for the entire kit over on hairpiece, they sell a little starter batch of rings here: http://hisandher.com/store/shop_product.asp?main=MAIN_001&sub=SUB_016&pro=9 - http://hisandher.com/store/shop_product.asp?main=MAIN_001&sub=SUB_016&pro=9
They're just $7 for 100 of them and you can put your own hair back in. Easy easy easy! I'd email them first and ask them what size those rings are though. I just noticed that it doesn't say it on their site.
Be sure to pick up a hook, too: http://hisandher.com/store/shop_product.asp?main=MAIN_001&sub=SUB_016&pro=6 - http://hisandher.com/store/shop_product.asp?main=MAIN_001&sub=SUB_016&pro=6
Or, you can follow Kristin's tutorial on how to do it with wire and forego the hook.

Hi girls, I'm really not the dip $@%$ I appear to be. I was on my boyfriends computer when I looked up different sites the other night and I obviously didn't go to the right ones. I couldn't remember the names of the sites that Jenny had referred me to. I just pulled it up again, and will order the starter kit today. Thanks again.
