OK, last night it became painfully apparent to me that I am not the best at blending colors (of course, I didn't have the right supplies--a hackle or a drawing mat, but still....). No matter how much I tried to mix up the hairs, they still looked like two distinctly separate chunks of color.
My question is this: My hair is sort of between the standard colors, so one batch I ordered is too light, the other is too dark (the company doesn't offer an in-between shade). If I blend them really thoroughly, will they create my own color (which again, is between those two colors)? My own hair is not highlighted, so will the extensions (which are then two colors combined) look like highlighted hair and thus not blend with my own?
Forgive me if this sounds totally whacked. I've been staring at this hair for way too long now.... Hopefully someone will be able to de-code my message here....

I tried blending once and had the same result you did. Yesterday I tried playing with it and got what looked like nice results with lots of combing (blending #30 and #24 into highlight streaks for my medium auburn hair).
Dr Locks has a video on this that looks like it might be very helpful.

Thanks, Katherine. Have you ever used a hackle or drawing card? :)

I was thinking in place of a hackle or drawing mat, couldnt you sandwich the hair between 2 boar hair brushes?? I saw some brushes at the store that had wood handles and my husband said he could screw them to a board and kinda make my own hackle/drawing mat.

Jenny,
When dollylocks did my hair, she picked up a lil from this pile and a lil from that pile to blend. them braided it in. did that make sense?

Yeah, it does.
I think I just need to experiment a little more with it and be patient. I did order a drawing mat, so that should be helpful. If for no other reason, it will help me keep all the hairs from getting everywhere.
Thanks everyone for your help! :)
