I finaly got my shrinkies and just waiting to buy some decent hair to tip myself, anyway, i thought i'd have a lil practice with them on a dolls head.

I already had some colourful hair that had the glue at the tip (in the shape of a nail) so i decided to melt it my straighteners (my heat wand is crap) into the shape of a shoe lace and cover it with some nail glue.

I went to insert the shrinkie as normal and it went on ok, only the glued tip began to melt again, even through the nail glue.... is there something i'm not doing right? i did wait for the glue to dry properly...could it be my straighteners are too hot?
Thanks

Imo, your straightener is too hot, you cooked them for too long, or melting the tip down first somehow made it more susceptable to melting again.

Perhaps you should try it again with a regularly bonded tip for a bit less time. If it happens again, I would assume your straightener is too hot. Do you have any temperature control with it?

:)

I think it's just because you used nail hair, which is supposed to bond on its own with heat. If you cut most of glue part off, so it still sticks together at the very top, and coat it with a little nail glue, you'll have better luck. I had something similar happen on just a single strand, and I think it's because the hair was tipped with fusion glue and it didn't have a layer of nail glue to protect it. It still worked, it was just a little gooey. =)

I did some experimenting with melting my 'nailhair' prebonded strands rolling them into stick type tips and it worked fine. When I heated them up with my fusion iron most of the excess glue actually squeezed out onto the wand so there was just the right amount of glue left to form the stick tip. I used them with the shrinkies and they did melt a bit but there isnt enough glue left in the tips to actually bond them to the natural hair. When I removed the shrinkies the strands came right off, with barely any glue residue on the natural hair. I didnt use any nail glue on the tips for these experimental strands, but I think that would help.
