Synth, because care is so simple; just keep it doused with silicone spray. There's less concern of inconsistent quality because it's manufactured, and as long as you find a good brand, it'll always be good. Plus, you can re-use it indefinitely because if it gets dried out and ratty, you just condition it and blow-dry it straight again and it's as good as new.

The only downside, IMO, is that it's a little too shiny for some types of hir. It's not noticeable if the client already has shoulder-length hair, but if they've got really short hair, the difference in sheen is pretty noticeable.

Ditto what Rae said, synth is much more consistent and predictable than human hair.

Rae, that's great info. Thanks for sharing that. I can see how the shiny thing could be a serious issue, but as far as I'm concerned, longevity & care are the primary factors. Ohmigod this is looking sooooo promising!

Rae or Emma, do you think the shine of synthetic hair fades with wear? Does it become duller with washings? I can handle shiny hair but Ive afraid of looking like a barbie doll. Ive only done streaks of synthetic and it seems like it looses its shine and blends in with the natural hair. But Ive only done streaks so it may be that its just less noticeable than a full head. This is still a big concern that I have with the synthetic that I hope to find out before hand!

I have used both synth and human hair extensions and I personaly prefer the human hair....if you find a good weft of human hair then it can last ages also I think that synthetic always looks fake and has too much of a sheen (no matter how expensive) and never lies like my own hair.

It's a dilema between syn. and real hair. Syn. is much better than cheap human hair. But, the absolute BEST I've had were virgin, unprocessed european hair wefts. Unprocessed is the key word here. I've tried every attachment type, and the least damamging is still the old stand by "braid & sew method" If you're interested let me know.

Yes the super shinyness goes away after a few washings and it starts to look more like real hair.

I prefer synth because it is lighter in weight than human hair, and also because I have yet to find human hair that is stick straight, so synthetic blends with my own straight hair better.
