Gosh, I know I've been MIA on this message board lately but I've been working really hard on getting my site up and running (among other things)....
I was hopeing you all could help me out. I'd like to make my website one of the best organized resources online for do-it-yourself-er's and I'd like your input as to what you'd like to see on it. I've added a couple more tutorials (thank you Rae ) but I'd like to add more so I'd love to know what everyones looking for...
Amm, do you you mind if I post your tipping instructions on it? Jenny_RR do you mind if I post some of your advice on it too?
What would you like to see on an online shop? I just got all of my necessary licenses to buy wholesale and sale retail so I'm ready to start. I'd like to have a "one stop shop" for people looking to do extensions.
Can you help me add to my little list of things I'd like to sell:
Packs of funky Colored hair Bohyme hair Bohyme color rings Extendtube kits (like on hairpiece) packs of extendtubes threading needles smooth and rough pliers for extendtubes shrinkies hair templates extension brushes liquid gold fusion sticks fusion guns possibly shampoos and conditioners
By the way, I got a few more funky colors in that are two-tone (there are pictures of them on my site). As for the price, I will keep it the same for all who saw it in the past but I have some new prices on my site for future shoppers and they will be sold in a kit that includes everything you'll need to install them.
I am going to try to getting around to labeling all of my pictures in my gallery too with the color numbers I used to help people out when choosing their own colors. I will also label which method I used: microlinks, fusion, or shrinkies.
If you have any adivce or suggestions for me please let me know. Also if you have pictures or tutorials or any use full knowledge you'd like me to post please send it to me at Kristin@HairCandy.net
Thank you for all your help

-Kristin

Looks fabulous and I look forward to buying products from you. I'm honored you want to use my instructions. You can use the pre-tipping instructions however you wish and just copy and paste as much as you want or need.
The only suggestion I would make is to have a shopping cart instead of having people fill in what they want. It's been proven that the easier it is for the customer to go through check-out, the higher percentage will actually go all the way through and not opt out without making a purchase. You, as a store owner will cut back on the amount of time you'll spend in email back and forth.
Here's my web site and the instant shopping cart availability to customers.
http://creeksidesoap.com/products.htm - http://creeksidesoap.com/products.htm
It's all one click ease and let's the customer add or substract as they wish. Also, it provides easy payment options of PayPal or credit cards, etc. PayPal provides this for free in their merchant tools area.
A "Add to cart" button should be under every item you're selling so it can just simply go into the cart.
If you need any help whatsoever setting it up, let me know.
Good luck! I look forward to buying supplies from you!

Thanks Amm,
The shopping cart is the only thing I think I'm having trouble setting up myself. That is definately what I want to get set up there soon but I'm thinking I'll have to pay someone to do it for me . Did you design your website yourself? How'd you get the cart up? I saw the option in my control panel from my web host but I don't know how to link it....
Feel free to PM me on the reply.
Once again, you're awesome!

Hey Kristin,
You're more than welcome to use anything I've written, and I'm thrilled to hear you have your licenses to sell. I'm sure we'll all be hitting you up for products very soon!
It sounds like you've already covered tons of bases in terms of commerce part. Beyond the products you've already mentioned, the only things I can think of are: Silicone shine sprays Packs of synth hair Heat clamps Drawing mats/hackles Fusion wands Take Down products Clip-in extensions Clip-on ponytails, falls, wigs Nail glue (for tipping) Hot tools
In terms of the content, you've already posted a lot there, but possibly: FAQs, Aftercare Instructions, a Links Page (you might want to use some of the links from the Extensions 101 thread here), and photos of hair before and after washing. The tutorials are just wonderful--so helpful!
Please let me know if I can be of help in any way, and congratulations! (It's so exciting that "one of our own" is doing this!!!)

Thanks Jenny_RR, Great suggestions! I had thought of the heat clamps and hot tools but I forgot to write them above. I also have my after-care page almost ready to post
What is the best synthetic hair you've tried? I haven't had a chance to try any of it but if it's as popular as it seems to be getting I'd love to get some in. Anyone? Suggestions?
Keep the suggestions coming

Well, it looks like the top ones are Dome, PlastikHaar, ProStyles, and Trimco (there are other new fibers like Freetress and Hot Stuff Fusion that people are testing, too). But I would imagine if you were planning to sell it, you'd need to go directly to whoever manufactures for those companies (basically, it all comes from China and Japan). Probably someone else can give you more info, though (I know nothing about import/export--LOL)!
:)
PS--But you'd want to look for Monofiber or Monofilament, I think, for synth. :)

Kristin... Loved the tutorials! Especially the Pre Tip how to!!! Will you be selling the boyme? I saw the color ring...It may be helpful to offer color descriptions, that is if you'll be selling the hair. Also, do I have to purchase the kit to get the funky colors? Thanks again and Congrats on your site!

Thanks Jenny_RR. If anyone is reading this that has tried any of that synthetic hair, what kind did you try? Did you like them? How is it compared to real hair? Curling? Straightening?
Gina: No you don't have to get the kit. I can send you what you need so just email me and I'll give you a price

amm: omg SOAP! I love handmade soap. I you don't mind, I'm going to post your link on a forum I frequent (it's for http://www.blackphoenixalchemylabs.com - BPAL products, but the people there love all sorts of scented stuff).
Kristin, if you decide to carry Plastikhaar, Sara offers a discount for bulk orders. Maybe order some samples and see what you think of the hair?

Amm's soaps are YUMMY! I got some from her over Christmas and they smell good enough to eat!
Thank you for the link Aeone! That's awesome, I'll definately look into it.
As for Sarah's hair I'll look into that too and see if I can get some samples. If it's as good as I think it will be, I'll sell that too.
To the question about international orders: I'd love to ship all over the world. I'll check with my post office this week to see what the prices are like to ship to all different countries and then I'll post it on my site
Thanks for all your help everyone!

I think good shampoos and conditionmers as well as shine sprays and that 'loop brush' I heard you talk about once would be good things to sell too. :-) And maybe some cute hair accessories.

Also, here's a hair care line supposedly made specifically for extension hair: http://www.haircompounds.com/hair_care.htm - http://www.haircompounds.com/hair_care.htm I've never seen it anywhere and never tried it. It may be the savior for non-cuticle extension hair, tho, if it really works. Maybe this is going out out of bounds, but how about hair color that's not the usual type, like the water-activated gentle ones? This is one I use that covers gray very well (both of them!) and is super gentle & cheap: http://www.worldwidecosmetics.com/haircolor.html - http://www.worldwidecosmetics.com/haircolor.html There is also NaturColor, Herbatint, and one other one...can't remember now. NaturColor even has a 'lightening' product that's much gentler than bleach, but takes hours. I've used all these brands and they all are good - they make your hair very very shiny as well. Can't wait til you're ready for business, Kristin.

Amm,
I'm just curious: Is your site is database-driven? (I assume the Shopping Cart portion is.) I was just wondering if it does inventory for you. Like, if you sell out of a product, is the site automatically updated with that info; or do you have to code it in yourself? Just curious.
:)

Jenny_RR what is your website?

Jenny -
I have to code it myself. I'm pretty new to e-commerce so I have the beginner's bells & whistles on it. I do some high volume especially around Christmas that makes me have to stay on top of things pretty tight. Maybe someday I can have something advanced like that but I can pretty much keep up with it every day.
Kristin -
Sorry for the delay.
OK, sign into your PayPal account. Click on the Merchant Tools tab. Select Accepting Website Payments/PayPal Shopping Cart.
In the box that says "Item Name/Service:" you'll type in something like "18 inch Pre-tipped Pink Hair Strand" (Or however you want it listed. Just make sure it's self-explanatory to you because this is your invoice that you'll be using to fill your orders.)
The "Item ID/Number: (optional)" is up to you if you want to catalog your inventory. I personally do not use this feature and leave this blank.
In the "Price of Item/Service you want to sell:" put in the cost of the item. Do not use a dollar sign but put a decimal point in to separate dollars and cents. ex: 1.80
Under "Currency" select United States so overseas buyers funds automatically change to US dollars.
"Buyer's Country" is optional and nothing needs to be selected.
"Select an Add to Cart button" - you can see there's a default button that PayPal provides and it's automatically selected for you. Or, you can create your own and there is a place for you to refer to your own uploads.
Click on "Create Button Now" and you will see code In the box marked "Add to Cart Button" - copy and paste this html code into your web site and place it next to/on top of/underneath the photo of your item or wherever you want it in your site. If you're using Front Page or another type of WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) type of web page maker, you can see what it looks like before uploading to your FTP server.
Now, instead of doing this through PayPal for every single item you have, all you have to do is paste the same code for all your different items and manually change the "item_name" value and the "amount" value that's inside the quotes (the 6th and 7th brackets, respectively).
Each item you're selling that you want to have the option of putting into a cart will have to have this code. You'll have to play with its positioning to see where it looks best and how you like it lined up with your item.
SHIPPING OPTIONS:
Click on the "My Account" tab up at the top. Select "Profile" just underneath the top bar and all the way to the right. Under "Selling Preferences" select "Shipping Calculations." Make sure "currency" selection indicates U.S. Dollar.
Under Cost Method/Description, I have personally chosen to use "Flat Amount" because I can use different pricing ranges depending on the weight of soap that's bought. This ensures the buyer isn't getting hosed on inflated shipping rates.
Under Cost and Price Ranges, the left column will be the amount that will automatically show up with each price range you select. If someone orders just a couple strands of hair and the cost is $5.00, you can set the shipping at $.50 cents or whatever. You can now go onto the next price range and set $5.01 - $10 orders with a $2.00 shipping rate. You can set these ranges to whatever you wish and you can change them any time you want. PayPal will automatically adjust shipping charges and the buyer will see them BEFORE the end of their checkout so there's no surprises for anyone.
Click "Save" when you have all your price ranges set.
After uploading, go to your web site and add things to your cart and proceed through the checkout process to make sure everything's working right. Your buyers will have a choice of using their PayPal account or a credit card if they don't want or have PayPal.
OTHER OPTIONS:
There's numerous other options available like drop down boxes so only one box can be used for multiple items (ex: hair strands in 20 different colors). You can play in those areas and see what you want to use or I can help you with those later if you decide to change.
This should get ya goin' for now. Let me know how it works.

Damn, that soap looks delicious! Good for you that you're coding the site yourself; even if you upgrade to a database-driven platform eventually, it's always helpful to manage a site yourself via coding, imo. And the site looks awesome, by the way.
HairQueen, I don't have a Web site; I've just done a fair amount of Internet work, so I was curious. Big, corporate sites are usually built around integrated platforms that automatically update everything (those systems are very robust and expensive), but a friend of mine recently launched a small-business site that was built on database with inventory (which is pretty impressive). Someone designed it for her, and she's not a techie so she didn't know much about the specifics. I was just asking AMM about hers, because I don't know whether those capabilities are available through affordable Web-building packages.
Back to the hair......... :)

Usually the colored streaks tend to get wavy after they are washed (they are not the Bohyme brand). As of right now I don't carry any other types of hair in the funky colors but I am going to a hair convention this weekend so we'll see if I can find anything. What color(s) are you interested in?

A convention - I would go crazy at a place like that I am looking for something that would look good with my reddish med. brown hair. Nothing too drastic (the dark red looked bad against my hair color but looked great on my sisters who has red/orange hair). I am looking for some really nice highlights in a lighter reddish brown. Thanks for looking Kristen.
