You said a few threads back that you have braided-in extensions. Do you mean pinch braids? And can you use human hair for pinch braids if you have to double over the hair? (I'm wondering about cuticle issues and tangling.) I'd like to try out a non-adhesive method, but I've got fine, fine, fine, fine (!) hair that is super slick and not so bend-y. OK, I've dug through the archives and answered a few of my own questions, so let me modify! You said (in a previous post) there is about 2" of overlap at the top where the extension hair reverses direction (because of the braid). Is there any tangling or matting because of this "reversed hair"? Is there any trick to getting it all to stay together until you can get the braid going? ------------- |

Hey Rapunzel, Yes, I've have pinchbraids for almost a year now, and I've been really happy with them. I don't have problems with the overlapped 1 1/2 to 2 inches; it blends quite seamlessly with the hair, and as long as you brush, it doesn't really tangle anymore than the hair would tangle elsewhere. (Most of the human hair for sale out there doesn't have much cuticle left, imo, so it's not much of an issue; also, I used "full cuticle" hair once, and that was perfectly fine, too--no worries.) Rae's tutorial is awesome; it shows you exactly how they're done, so check it out. I wish I had just started with pinchbraids, rather than doing Cinderella, GLs, Hairlocs, and others; I think braids are a great method overall. But I should mention that I get them done by a professional; I don't do them myself. Advantages: The least damaging method, imo; very secure in the hair (I never have slippage); cost-effective; easy installation and removal; can use any hair (human or synthetic). Disadvantages: Can be a bit more visible and bulky than other methods (such as fusion or shrinkies); the "overlap" eats up 1 1/2 to 2 inches of hair, so order a little longer hair than you want; can be somewhat tricky to master (more so than extendtubes or shrinks, imo). Thanks so much for all the info! The tutorial is great and the pictures are super-helpful. I'm excited about trying this method. My CableOrganizer shrinkies are letting me down, so I'll either get the "real" shrinkies (hate to think that I can't accomplish this subversively, with some sort of bargain shrinkies) or, given divine intervention, find that pinchbraids are my thing (and SO easy to put in myself--ha!). Mother Nature is so cruel--she gave me the furriest blond eyebrows and skimped on my scalp. So ironic... Thanks again for all the great information! ------------- |
