I have ethnic type hair (I'm mixed)
Ive been trying to do my homeowork on extensions. I never had them before because I always felt they didnt look natural or feel natural. Before I spend all my money oh this system, has anyone had or heard of anyone who has this kind of hair extensions which uses metal clamps? I have sample in my hair right now and it doesnt hurt or feel/look unnatural. Just wanted to be sure it wouldnt damage my real hair.

Thanks!!!

Hi Giselle,

I know it's being called "Hair Enhancement" on that site, but all of the photos and info. are from Hairlocs, so I think you can assume that Hairlocs is the method being used.

Personally, I really don't like Hairlocs, because I think they're damaging, not secure in the hair, and way overpriced. There's lots of info. on these threads about Hairlocs; I'm not familiar with this particular stylist, though.

I would recommend that you begin by reading these threads, which will give you a basic overview of the various methods used as well as related links:

Search through this board for posts about hairlocs or Kimarie and youll find alot of bad experiences with the method. Ill post some of the threads for you as soon as I locate some of them.

Oh my goodness..... I almost spent over $2000 on that system! I even have an appt set up. So I guess what I want to know now is bottom line, what is the safest, natural looking way to go for extensions?

Hmmm well I guess it depends alot on your hair style, texture, condition and what you want to achieve. There are several methods in the links that Jenny posted and tutorials as well. Read through those links and if there is any thing specific that you have questions about just ask, there are many knowledgable and experienced people on this board who can either answer your questions or point you in the right direction!

Hairlocs uses a copper coil? and Great Lengths uses a copper ring? Am I getting this straight? Why would these so called "professionals" use something that is damaging to your hair??? Geesh

Hairlocs uses a copper lock or tube type ring thingy, and GL is a very hard fusion type bond

I'm glad you stopped by here first because (even if you like the loc/link method, although it's not my first choice), you can get it done for about 1/4 of that price (less, if you want to use synthetic or do it yourself. I'm not kidding at all.

Anyway, as Sherrie said, you should read through those basic materials first, and then post with your questions. Keep in mind that the best method for you will depend on several factors, including your real hair (fine/coarse, thin/thick, straight/wavy/curly, color-treated, damaged, healthy, short/medium/long, etc.), and the look you want to achieve.

If you can provide photos of your hair currently and how you would like it to look, that would be helpful--if not actual photos of you, then Internet screengrabs that look similar to your hair now and the hair you want.

In addition, how much do you want to spend? Do you want to do it yourself or get it done at a salon? What are your top priorities--versatility, security, length, thickness, no damage, etc.?

Happy reading, and please post any questions you have afterward. :)
