ok, well Im done installing the plastikhaar. I used an obscene amount haha, 4 1/2 packs.

the violet is underneath so you cant see it from this view, but the hair is layered, and I wanted diffrent color blonds in it.... but well... **** happens.

the hair itself is wonderful.

(edited cause I can never get pics right the first time)

How long did you leave it at it's longest point, and how many layers did you do? Did you braid them in, or use shrinkies?

This gives me hope--yippie!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is beautiful : ) How did you layer it by the way? did you cut different lengths before you put it in i take it?

Posted By: Kalika
Date Posted: January 30 2005 at 10:37pm
my bad, I used shrinkies, well my boyfriend put them in for me (isnt he the best?) - and I cut them diffrent lenghts before I put them in. How I did thaw was take the strand I Was gonna use, then take 1/2 of that and cut approx 1/4 to 1/3 off. its hard to explain so I'll show you...

thats one piece.

that way, everythings cut before its put in, and when you move from the bottem of your head to the top, the layers just move with you, so by the end result, it looks like layers are all over the place, its because it was cut before it was put in, it has a very gradual effect. :)

Now here's an idea...

Using your photo as a reference...

Since we're not dealing with cuticles here, let's say you don't cut it into different lengths and you take a strand and fold it with one side trailing down about 25" and the other side about 10" or 15" and then stick the looped top through the shrinkie and then seal it? The strand will basically remain the 40" some odd inches and you can have double the hair in one shrinkie? (Wouldn't work with microrings because the strand would be too thick.)

Anyone know what I mean? Wouldn't this technique result in almost zero shedding and eliminate making tips altogether, too?

do you mean kind of like the double ended dread method?

I would think it would be hard for the hair to lay right if its loose. maybe someone can do a couple test shrinkies?

-------------

Kalika,

"Sex on a stick" is right--Pam Anderson's got nothing on you, girl! Your boyfriend is a star!

If you were doing pinchbraids, rather than shrinkies, would you double the hair over?

Man, I'm planning to do the Plastikhaar/Dome switch in a few weeks, but this photo makes me want to ditch this human hair today....

One more question (cause I always use bone-straight hair): Do you need to be conscious of the direction those waves are facing when you put them in, or is it just random? Your waves look really natural--like they're obviously not all facing the same direction--but I was just wondering if there was any pattern to it. Also, how high up on your head do they go?

:)

Bahahahaha! That's hilarious.

And...shoot, who asked about pinchbraids? Someone in this thread. Anyway, yeah, with pinchbraids you double the hair over and braid with a loop at the top.

And yes, putting only one side of a strand of hair through the shrinkie would cause it to stick up a little at the top. You can braid in loose hair like this (like a double-ended dread), and that's what it does unless you rubber-band the loose side down at the top.

Actually, what I though Amm meant was not quite like doing DEs. Both free ends would come out of the bottom of the shrinkie, but instead of a tip, you'd have a fold. It might be even easier to stick some glue on the fold point to keep everything nice and neat.

And Kalika, that is gorgeous! How long is your real hair? I can't see it at all.

ahh ok, I was confused :)

it sounds like a good idea, but in my expireance its hard to keep the hair from getting to messy when dealing with bulk. thats why I rubberband it and cut it off that.

the hair goes all the way to the top, save for about 1/2 an inch around the hairlines, and my hair at its shortest is 1 1/2 inches, and the longest is about 3 inches (bleaching disaster, haha)

my hair is also very fine, but thick, and strong on the roots, thats why Im able to wear such heavy hair.

the layering is totally random, thats why I cut all the strands before I put them in :)

here are some pics which show the part line better
plus it shows how the hair just naturally lays when I wear it down
(forgive me - they were for the boyfriend)

(I can NEVER get these damn pics right the 1st time...)

lmao @ amm - told ya the hair was fantabulas. I ordered the 50mm wave btw

Hair care plan - same as any synth really. I wash my hair once a week just to get rid of scalp oils and gunk, fabreeze my hair in between washes to keep it smelling nice, and brush it twice a day, morning and night. I also sleep in a big loose braid to keep it from getting tangly.

(edit) ahh, forgot to mention, the flash makes it look shinier then it is, the shine is closer the the 1st photograph.

What's so funny is that the way your hair looks now is the look I've been trying to achieve for almost two years with human hair (and never even came close). Everything I read said that synth was terrible, so I never even considered it until a few months ago.

Kalika,

Your boyfriend should go into the hair business Your hair looks just beautiful and the style looks great on you too. Not many people can pull off long blonde hair like that. I can't even tell that your real hair is super short. Your head must feel like a ton now with all of that hair on it - LOL. Please keep us updated on how it washes. I received my sample the other day and it was getting tangled really fast for me when I was playing with it. Very interested how it works for you with a full head of it. Thanks for sharing your pictures - like the other girls stated before - "Your the BOMB!!!"

I believe Kalika said she used 50mm in a previous thread.

I actually have another question, Kalika: Do you think the hair will straighten out over time, and if so, when? (I know you've used synth before, so I'm thinking you can probably predict.) At that point, would you used hot rollers to restore the wave or steam the hair? :)

havent a clue, this is the first wavy synth Ive ever used. Im assuming it will slowly straighten out over time, and Im going to do some expirements with the left over synth. I might just put my hair in a fat braid and dip the lower 1/2 into boiling water to restore the wave if it drops too much, but like I said, I need to expirement first.

I am confused. Your hair is so short, but you aren''t getting the mullet effect going on. Do you have to play with it to make it look good? And you can''t even see the shrinkies, so that is awesome. You can tell it is piecey, but I like that look. thanks for the pics, i was chickening out before these.

I asked Kalika the same thing 'cause it looks so good. She just goes all the way up her head with the shrinkies and doesn't worry about it if they show a little. She said her shortest hairs are an inch and a half, and she was able to shrinkie them without problem. :)

yup, and lemmie tell ya why :)

we (females as a whole) are no longer natural.

we...

put on fake nails
paint fingernails
toenails
use tanning beds
fake tanning lotions
contacts
color contacts
cosmetic surgery
under eye circle cream
wrinkle cream
hair bleach
hair color
shave
wax
hair remover creams
tweeze
use "feminine hygene products"
braces
bleach for our teeth
it goes on and on.....

so after ALL of this.... I really dont care if someone sees a shrinkie :)

In allo honesty, if someone saw one, they wouldnt CARE, but however if they saw a mullet....

well you know where Im going with this :)

An excellent point. Kalika for president!

A lot of times, I like the dramatic styles more than the natural styles anyway. Plus, if you know a lot about fake hair, it seems obvious to you, but to most people--who have no clue about extensions--they have no idea what's up.

I think my extensions--and pieces, and wigs--have always looked more obvious than most. But it never ceases to amaze me how many people think it's my real hair. Men, in particular, never know; white girls rarely do. But black girls can spot 'em a mile away--and usually they're like, "I love that! Where'd you get it?" :)

JennyRR you are right on. White girls can't tell, black girls can tell a mile away, and men are in complete denial. Even my bf, who knows better, saw me with this new hair in just last week and didn't say anything. When I asked if anything was different (many hours later), he said yes, your hair is long. But that's how he remembers me over 5 yrs is with long hair, so the fact I went from ear length to brastrap length in one day didn't even occur to him as weird. I just looked normal to him.
Men. Good thing they're so easily satisfied.

Syren, you crack me up. My boyfriend is the same way....he's even seen my collection of falls I keep on a rack behind my bedroom door. (Any man who can witness the wall of hair and not freak out is a keeper!) Still, if I put on different hair, he never suspects. (Though he does think it's weird if I take them out in front of him.)

I used to wear this great spiral curl banana clip fall to dance class sometimes...only my dance teacher knew it was fake, and I'm sure she's seen many a hairpiece in her time.

yeah, kalika, i feel ya sister. My nails, boobs, tan, and sometimes hair color have always been fake. Have no problem with them being visible if it doesn't look bad, and the shrinkies don't at all. I was leaning towards the pinchbraids, and letting them show for a funky look, but I am excited about letting my hubby do these for more than half the price. You go girl. seriously THANKS for the pics. Yall DIYers need to show more pics!!

Jenny, funnny you say that about the black girls spotting it a mile away. Was at dinner with some frineds the other night, and I complimented one of our black girlfirends on her piece and she looked at me like I called her something rude, then says Damn, you can tell?? white girls aint supposed to know!.. lol

Ok one more thing, before I order this stuff...my hair is short too, around 4 inches at top. does it not stick out at all? Does the strand of extension lay on top and keep it blended into the hair?? I noticed it does perfectly in the pic you took, but is it something you have to always be concious of, or what?

Shaman, 4 inches on the top should be enough to conceal the extensions below. Especially if you hair is thin, you'll want to keep at least an inch (and probably an inch and a half) away from your part line. That loose hair will camoflague the extensions below, and so on all the way down. You may need to use some styling products to keep that hair on the top laying flat, but it's really no big deal. :)

oh i dont know jenny i am afraid to get the mullet going, and with the slight wave, it puffs up so wont lay flat on the hair. i think kalikas really looks great going to the part so i am going to do that. just wasnt clear on how it still stayed hidden under the extensions.

sorry for all the questions, i just REALLY want to be clear before I get everything. We have so many things going on that are costing us but i want hair dammit! besides, let's face it, looking good really is more important than a new roof.

I hear you. Having any texture to your natural hair will help to hide the shrinkies. I tend to think in terms of my own hair--which is superstraight and thin--but when you're doing it, you'll instincively be able to tell what looks best up top. Keep me posted! :)

It's synthetic and can be blow-dried on low heat, curled with hot rollers and other water techniques, but you can't flatiron it or use a curling iron. For more info on synth care, just look at the previous threads on PlastikHaar, Dome, or ProStyles. Or go to the 101 Thread at the top of the page, and go to the aftercare section; it'll tell you everything you need to know about caring for synth.

Good luck! :)

WICKED!!!!!!!!!! your hair is so the bomb! aiight im yet another spunky hair junky with questions hehe. First of all omg! the layering idea so never would have thought of that and it looks so good! Your hair looks so fab I read every reply in this thread! I was wondering though... Is there any synthetics of high quality that have more of a matt look to it? i love the shine of high quality synth but sometimes its so shiney it can look fake (to a trained eye) as mentioned earlier on in here. I don't care if people think it looks fake, but I have this complex about plastic hair in mine am I just being a egg? I despize the prices of human hair and its so finicky! any suggestions? I SO LOVE YOUR HAIR! and yeah totally like the other poster said PAMELA ANDERSON EAT YOUR HEART OUT! lol

the flash makes it look shinier then it really is, and back when my hair was healthy (lol before I tortured it with bleach) it would shine just as much, if not more, then a lot of the synthetics.

Someone mentioned on here to use a shine spray on your natural hair to blend it in with the synthetic more, and that to me seems to be a great idea. My hairs so short though, I really dont care, lol

The PH really isnt that shiney. Its no shinier than naturally healthy human hair. I was delightfully surprised to get the PH and discover how natural it looked!

That is so pretty! I have never heard of plastikhaar until now. Is it a good quality synthetic and where do you get it? Some of my clients like synthetic, so i've been using Hot Stuff Fusion hair on them. But i'm always looking for new hair.

Great job Lhd! Im glad you found that picture...its a great picture!

Plastikhaar isnt a thermofiber Divahair. Its very good monofiber, the care is a little different from HH or Thermo but it can fast a full 3 months if taken care of right. If you do a search here on PH pr plastikhaar or monofiber you should turn up some results.

Heres the website for PH switzerland shop

and the PH north american shop

Oh.. yes you can curl the PH. You just cant use hot metal tools like curling irons. You can use steam rollers. Jenny always slept with hers in 'boinks' to keep the wave. If you look at Jenny_RR user icon you'll see her wearing PH also. And aimee (I believe) uses PH in her user icon too.

Ok.. that makes sense, i emailed that websight to ask about curling the hair and in my email i think i must have said something to the effect of using hot metal tools and thats why they said you couln't use them.. i didn't get clarification on the hot rollers.. cool! i love to use hot rollers anyways.. does the curl hold as well the plaskichaar

I wanted to order some, but they don't have that many choices in their wefted hair

DivaHair. You have to custom order the wefts. But its great because you can pick one color or  you can get them made with any colors/ mixes of colors streaks highlights anyway you want them. Just email Sara. It takes a while to get since they custom make them to your specifications, but its a great option.
