I just got my shrinkies today. I'm having a hard time getting the top of the tube to shrink. Everything else is shrinking and forming perfectly aroung the tip. It's almost as if I'm gonna have to move it further from scalp... but that defeats the purpose. Any advive would be appreciated!

thats too high. get it in the middle. you also need to clamp it for about 10 - 15 seconds, then roll them between your fingers to "set" it

Thanks Kalika! I'm SLOOOOOWLY getting better.
One more Q... If the shrinkie is still whitish/cloudy, Do I need to heat longer or have I overheated?

Does anyone know if there is a place where you can just purchase a few shrinkies and not the full jar? I just want to try them first. Thanks!

Home Depot. It's called Heat Shrink Tubing. $1.55. BUT, it only comes in black and it doesn't have adhesive.

As far as I know, there's no trial packets available. If you don't want to spend the money for a whole jar, get some locally and practice with them. They're not exactly like shrinkies but they're good enough to see if you like the process.

I tired that, but I ended up melting a couple shrinkies. its easier for me to use a slightly lower temp and just hold the clamp on a little longer. although my boyfriend did the majority of my head, I still did a bit, so I figure if it helped me as a beginner, might help her :)

I was using the highest heat, too, and I think I wasn't clamping them for long enough, because the results were a bit uneven (plus, I never sizzled). Next time, I'll think I'll try the medium heat and longer clamp time. :)

Thanks all for the advice. I kept playing today. I think my biggest problem was I was afraid of getting to close to scalp and burning my self. (I did go midway on temp. like Kalika suggested) This is just going to be trial and error for me!
I'm still having some issues with the texture of bonds(they're anoying and a bit uncomfortable) I notice it when I lay down. This may be due to my LG tips and nail glue coating. I'm testing LG vs latex with nail glue. ( I made an absolute mess with LG...But this is my first time...I'm such a virgin)

krs523, if you're looking for sample shrinkies, Doc Locks was sending out a few to try when they were first out. You might contact her and see if she'll throw a few in if you send her a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Edit: you might want the address...just go to drlocks.net and click "contact."

Thanks! I actually ordered a full jar. I had extensions put in with the microrings from hairpiece.com and their 16" pretipped human hair. I had them done on Sunday and so far, so good. I tried to put in a couple extra pieces with the Shrinkies and it didn't go too well. I used my flat iron and heard the sizzle, but didn't get the shrinkage. They stayed the same size. I'm going to keep trying...I might need to break down and get the iron from Kristen (by the way, thanks for the LG). Appreciate everyone's suggestions and I LOVE my extensions! Everyone I know wants to get them now and I refer them to this board to do research. I'm checking everyday (a bit obsessively, I might add) for updates and suggestions.

The sizzle was probably from the tips on the hairpiece.com pretips. Let me know how the hairpiece hair holds up for you. I've been a little disappointed in mine.

Just in case anyone's interested, with the Mark Barrington Shrink Links, I don't have any of the heating problems or slippage problems that you guys seem to be having with the shrinkies.

The Shrink Links are have much thinner walls, therefore they shrink up nicely and no finger rolling is required.

I know a lot of people are bummed out because MB will only sell to licensed folk who take their class, but their product really is way superior to the dr. locks product.

Fina - so far, so good. It's only been a few days, but I've washed a couple of times. I started with less expensive hair b/c it was my first time. I'm sure I'll need to upgrade, but didn't want to make a huge investment until I found the best method for attaching.

How long do you think I should hold the flat iron on the shrinkies? 15 seconds? Longer? Thanks!
