Hello again! Pretty close to making my decision. The haircandy.net colort site has a really nice color chart and the hair still looks in wonderful condition after it is washed, according to the photos. Anyone know what kind of hair that is? A web link would be helpful.
Jenny, I have tried his and hers. I loved it the first 3 times, then they sent me a CRAPPY bunch and I was so pissed I never used them again. I get blonde hair, so you may have had better luck with the black.
And as I said before, super hair factory has not been that great. Customer service is wonderful but hair.. no....... gets pretty dry. not tangly though..

haircandy is operated and owned by a lady that comes here to this board by the username CaliforniaKristin. She has just recently launched her website and its still under construction so Im sure alot more will still be added to her site. I know that she uses Bohyme hair and really likes it. I think you can order Bohyme at several different places. Including superhairfactory.
The thing that sucks about any human hair is that its quality is so inconsistant. The same brand can vary so much from batch to batch. And blonde hair is even more prone to problems since it is so processed.

Hey Jen,
Yeah, I know that hisandher's is supposedly inconsistent. I usually order 613 everything, but that was just a special case--I was doing half my head with black streaks, and like I said the hair was amazing.
Anyway, again, I think Bohyme, Glamourhair, Hairpiece 101 or 909, and Hisandher cuticle are all OK choices. I don't think you'll get the bomb hair from any one of those sellers, but quite honestly, I don't think really excellent human hair is available from anywhere, especially in light colors. Extensions are just way too processed. This is why I'm switching to synth real soon--I'm fed up with getting mediocre hair for hundreds of dollars. Hopefully, the synth will work out better.
Good luck! :)

Oh yeah, and ditto Sherrie. Kristin uses Bohyme, which you can get from ebonyline.com or SuperHairFactory.com. Good luck! :)

There is absolutely no human hair available that a majority can agree is consistent high quality.
What you will find on this board is a number of people saying what works best for them but may be completely unacceptable to someone else.
Human hair is always a crapshoot and a costly one at that.

Not ALL human hair is processed. Check european hair extensions on your search engine.

In my experience, it's all processed--a lot. I've probably used upwards of 10 brands now (many of them expensive, too), and they're all permed, straightened, or colored at the very least, and most European extensions are essentially Asian hair that's been treated in an acid bath. You'd have an easier time getting unprocessed Indian than true unprocessed European. The worst way to find hair is via random Internet searches, imo. It is very important that you talk to people who've used the hair before you buy (despite what they're claiming on these websites). :)

I believe "virgin" hair defines if the hair has been colored, or permed. I thought the terms "raw"was for hair that had not been soaked in acid, colored, or permed. "Unprocessed" hair simply means not soaked in acid chemicals. Sorry if I was wrong on this.

Hmm...it's quite possible that you're right; I really don't know. In most of the literature I've read, it seems like "virgin," "raw," and "unprocessed" are used interchangeably. But perhaps these have a specific meaning in the industry. It gets quite confusing because of all the conflicting claims on the market (this also applies to "Remi"/"Remy" single-drawn/double-drawn, cuticle corrected, and so forth). There is no quality control or regulatory agency, so companies seem to be able to make any claims they want.
That said, if you're making that distinction, I'd say of all the hair I've used, 20% has been cuticle intact and correct and probably not acid-bathed (all of it was colored and permed, imo); the other 80%, imo, was acid-bathed. The price between the two types was considerable, and the cuticle hair was much more durable. None of it was European, imo (meaning from an actual European woman). That said, I had some cuticle hair that was incredibly strong, soft, and durable, but quite dull after a short time (that was my experience with GLs, actually).
I don't mean to sound like too much of a naysayer; I'm just extremely cautious because I've been burned on hair way too many times. And I'm extremely skeptical about ordering from anywhere that hasn't been reviewed several times by different people. :)

Jenny, you're the bomb! you go girl!!! You know more about hair extensions than anyone I've met up with. This is absolutetly the best message board ever. Jenny, and lot of you regulars are making it easier for the rest of us. (you know who you are) Thanks for talking about your experiences.

Srr,
Yeah--these boards are awesome. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful, which is good, because there are so few places to learn about this stuff.
But trust me, I don't know all that much--there are lots of methods I haven't tried, and I have very little hands-on experience compared to a lot of the girls here. I'm just pretty good at the research, and I've have had enough disasters to be able to steer people away (hopefully) from some of my mishaps. Lots of people here are very knowledgable (everyone seems to "specialize" in one thing or another), and it usually takes about 10 different opinions to figure things out.
What methods are you using and what kind of hair? Are you a licensed hairdresser or a DIYer? (Sorry if you've already explained this elsewhere; I get a little mixed up sometimes....)

Hi Jenny, Thanks for asking.. I've been doing hair extensions for about 12 years. I got really sick and tired of all these hair companies lieing (there's so many crooks in the hair selling business, it's pathetic.) So....I taught myself how to hand tie hair (a lot more difficult than it sounds- it took me over a year before I had the confidence to make one for a client, every time I make one it's still a challenge) I order the hair from the Ukraine (that's a whole nother story in its self) Hackle it, & draw it out by lengths, and tie them into a weft with a weaving pole. If your interested my website is www.hawaiianhairextensions.com I'm not trying to drum up business, I'm have lots of clients, and repeat clients from the internet, along with my own salon extension business. I have so much work right now that I'm going to have to train someone....not looking forward to it, it's really complicated. How about you? Do you work in a salon? You must have been doing extensions a long time to know so much about them. Did you know Sonia=hairpolice?
|

OK, I get it now...
Hand-tying sounds phenomenally difficult and time-consuming; I can only imagine. But what a wonderful skill to have. If you can do that, I'm sure you could make wigs and pieces no problem. And there seems to be a lot demand, particularly now, for lace-front wigs especially. And extensions, of course, are always in demand....
How did you hook up with your Ukraine supplier? Did you travel there or something? I only ask because I'm intrigued about what it's like doing business with that country (what with the chaos of the recent elections and all). I imagine that must be a challenge, too.
I absolutely am not a hairdresser, extensionist, or anything of the sort. I've been wearing extensions for a few years, and I experiment with DIY stuff, but primarily I get my hair done my an extensionist who does the pinchbraid (Hairpolice) method. I never met Sonia, although I heard many wonderful things about her. I am certainly grateful to her, however, for having championed this method of extensions. Of all the experimenting I've done, I've found the pinchbraid, or string, method to be gentlest on the hair.
What's it like in Hawaii? Aside from the weather and the beaches, of course LOL. Is there a big demand for extensions there? I understand it's rather expensive in the tourist areas.

srr~ I used to live in Hawaii, I wish I new you then. I would love to learn how to make hand tied wefts. Do you teach? I was just on your site the other night.....your hair looks very nice I must say.
Does anyone know someone in the LA area that teaches how to make hand tied wefts? I wish someone would make a video!! That would be a big seller!!

Howzit from Hawaii Jenny, You are smart! pinchbraids are my 2nd favorite, right after braid and sew method. I only wish I was better at them. I've seen the tutorial (thanks to some fantastic folks kindly willing to give back to the hair community) I have a client who buys my hair and has her extensionist put in the pinchbraids. I also have clients with fusion, which is not a favorite of mine at all. I'll do it but try to talk them into another method. Haven't tried the shrinkies yet, what do you honestly think of them? When people are referring to nail glue does that mean like crazy glue? I think synethetic hair requires "spirit gum" Doesn't it? I'm not sure.
What do you think of microrings?? It seems you can't put any extensions fatter than the little rings...there's some parts of the head I would go thicker like at the occipital ...which cuts the time, and isn't noticeable. Which is another reason I really like the pinchbraids, they're much more versitile. I don't care for sewing rings into extensions either, it's kinda hard on the hair, there's no even distribution as with braid and sew, or pinch braids. Please know this is only my opinion. I'm aware of people who use Prostyles & Dome that are true artists!!! I think whatever you choose, make sure it's your stylists favorite method too, much less chance of disaster. My husband has has been bugging me for a couple years to make a video...the camera needed is really expensive, I honestly don't think I would have enough sales to make it worthwhile. Does anyone know of any other methods?

Well, I think microrings (or extendtubes, which are actually better) are a pretty good method, since they use no glue and are fairly easy to apply. But it's true: Those rings are pretty small, and ideally I'd prefer not to have any metal on my hair at all. I think a lot of it really depends on the hair, though. People with medium to thick healthy hair can get away with a lot more than people with superthin, fine hair (unfortunately, I fall into the latter category).
I've actually never tried wefts. When I was first looking into extensions, I was told they'd be too bulky for my hair, so I never pursued it. I do think there are some advantages to wefts, though, the more I've been reading about them. Again, I think it really depends on the type of hair you have and the look you want to achieve.
As far as Dome/Prostyles/PlastikHaar, what's funny about it is that I feel like most people are now using this hair with methods other than the traditional Dome heat-sealing method. Most people I've heard of are using it for pinchbraiding, shrinkies, and extentubes, actually--probably because the heat-sealing method is such a hassle.
My feeling about shrinkies is that they're a good method, and quite invisible. I also think they're generally quite safe--certainly safer than fusion--but I do think it's important to pretip the hair properly and so some experimentation with the heat settings first. Generally, they seem to hold quite well, and when they don't it seems to be an error in the application. I have yet to have a whole head of shrinkies; I've just experimented on my hair and my boyfriend's, and the results have generally been good, although I definitely need to play around with them more. My hair absolutely hates glue and is extremely fragile and thin, so if I can do a full head with success, that would be saying a lot. My next full-head experiment will be next weekend with synth; then, I might switch to shrinkies, at least in the more visible portions of the hair. We'll see.......

Srr,
I was going to order your hair from Hawiian Hair since your website seemed really good. I then found this board and NOBODY knew about you. I still wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt and emailed you and asked for one of your clients to tell me about your hair. You gave me NOTHING. Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh but if you have soooooo many happy clients why could you not find ONE to tell me about your hair? I also could not find anything about your hair on the internet and I told you this so you sent me advertisements for you hair - still no ratings. If you want people to buy your hair you have to show something for it. I want to hear from real people who have used your hair and what they think of it. Your hair is VERY expensive and too much for me to spend Blind. Myself and others included have had too many bad experiences with hair

I'm a bit confused. You're in no way related to any other hair company but yet you sell hair off a web site? Can you clarify that?
I do recall you saying you sell hair that's 100% cuticle and I asked if I could have a sample so I could look at it under a microscope. I have some really high powered one at my employment that I can use. You never responded to that. What do ya say? Think your hair could stand up to the challenge?

Please email me srr@aloha.net I really love this board... peope with lots of great knowledge!! I don't want to get blackballed. I didn't realize the importance of having one of my clients email you. Now I understand, I don't blame you for wanting as much info about me as possible...it is a lot of money. I do offer a 100% guarentee, if you don't like the hair send it back for a full refund. If it mats send it back, I'll make you a new one. There's also a guarantee with credit cards. You can contest anything you buy, and your credit card Co. will make a full investigation, and you'll get your money back. I know, it happened to me. I order my hair over the internet from a guy in the Ukraine. The cost hasn't just doubled, its quadrupled in price. I've been burned badly only one time....it was painful. No recourse as they all want a wire transfer, they won't take a credit card. Once you send it, it's gone.

Srr, I really like the 100% guarentee. That shows good customer service where some other stores on the other hand shows none. If I could get 3 ounces of top quality 18 inch hair for $300.00 I might consider. Do you have any references though that you could put on your webpage. It would really help you out alot. Tiamarie had her Great Lengths stuff edited and deleted off the board so it's not really fair to let someone else use this as their advertising area.
Maybe a seller's pricing, guarantees, etc can be discussed in private email?

The hair however over the years is much better. When I started almost all hair was awfull.

Hi everyone, I've been reading your advice and opinions as much as possible for a week now and want to thank you all. So here's my story. IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS I AM ON MY 3RD SET OF EXTENSIONS. I COULD HAVE BOUGHT A NEW CAR BY NOW :-) My first 2 were synthetic. I have blonde curly hair. Parts are curly like a soft spiral curl and other parts are just soft curly. It looks like a lot of hair but it's very fine. The synthetics became too straight after a few weeks of washing. Heat really affects them and I was tired of washing my hair with cold water. I then became a slave to hot rollers so they can match my real hair.I was travelling in Spain and half of them feel out. They were put in with the Keratin and braided as well. Maybe it was the water in Spain? Frantically, I searched for a salon but not a curly extension in sight. I finally found an African extension shop and had an African woman put new ones in. She did an incredible technique only using the stretch thread...no glue and it's amazing how strong it is. It's now about a month and still strong. The only problem is the extensions are not a good quality at all. THEY BECAME FRIZZY AND EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE VERY CURLY THERE WAS NEVER A CURL ON THE BOTTOM. THE GOOD THING IS THEY'RE NATURAL SO I CAN FINALLY TAKE A HOT SHOWER!!! I discovered Keraphix conditioner by Nexus and it has saved my life! I am trying to find THE BEST SOFT CURLY BLONDE HAIR EXTENSIONS. At this point I'll spend whatever it takes. I'll be going back to Spain to live with my boyfriend and hope to bring her better extensions for my hair. So is it BLISS.....EBONYLINE OR NATURE GIRL?? I know everyone has their own opinion but please help. Thanks again, Faith

Hey Faith,
Welcome! Getting a good curl that lasts and doesn't frizz is tricky. After what a few of our members have gone through recently, I wouldn't recommend Bliss at all. Nature Girl has gotten some good feedback, as well as some bad feedback, but it may be an option if you can lift the hair up to your level of blonde (I believe it's all dark brown to black when you get it).
I think Bohyme from ebonyline.com http://www.ebonyline.com/humanbraid.html - http://www.ebonyline.com/humanbraid.html or Glamourhair's Remy http://www.glamourhair.com/extensions/default.asp - http://www.glamourhair.com/extensions/default.asp might be your best bets. I haven't used either in the wavy textures; this is just based on the feedback I've heard. Amm uses Glam's French Refined and has posted lots of pics; there are some on pg. 2 of this thread: http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/viewthread.asp?page=2&pagesize=20&forum=AMB_AP934431446&id=5073 - http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/viewthread.asp?page=2&pagesize=20&forum=AMB_AP934431446&id=5073 Your hair sounds like it's curlier, so perhaps the Deep Wave would be a good choice. As far as the Bohyme goes, I've never seen pics before and after washing, but the Deep Wave might be a possibility.
Ideally, it'd be great if you could order samples from three companies (say, Glamourhair, Ebonyline, and NG), then wash them and, in the case of NG, bleach them to your color, and see which performs best, but I don't know what kind of time you have.
I'm sure others will weigh in here, too.
Again, welcome, and good luck!
:)

One other thing: I know youve had bad experiences with synth in the past. I don't know which brands you've used, but PlastikHaar has a lot of different curly textures to choose from. Here are the patterns: http://www.plastikhaar.ch/bilder/curls.jpg - http://www.plastikhaar.ch/bilder/curls.jpg Based on the experiments some of the members here have done, the key seems to be ordering a pattern that's 1 to 2 times curlier than you actually need; when you wash it, it will relax to the desired texture. Anyway, at $13 a bag, it's a lot less of a risk to take than with any of the human hair brands, and Sara (who owns the shop), is always sending out samples, so that may be another possibility. :)

If you want a tighter curl pattern than the 28mm from PH its a special order. Which I am sure at this point I will need. I want my curl after washings to be at least 28mm. anywhoooo...it was mentioned in another thread that you have to order 5 bags per color of a special order curl pattern. Ive sent an email off to Sara asking about that, cause I want to order the tighter curl but I want at least 3 colors for blending and I certainly dont want to order 15 bags!

I can't believe I missed this thread! I had friends in from New Zealand that week so I was MIA on the board. Anywho, I know the question was answered but I'm haircandy.net and If you have any questions about products on my site I'd love to answer them for you. All of the natural colors I use are Bohyme and the Funky colors I get in are a Remi blend I believe. If there's ever anything you need or any products you'd like to see featured on HairCandy.net please email me at Kristin@HairCandy.net
Once again, sorry for the late post....
