I want to say that I have been lurking and reading all your posts on extension. I have learned allot. Thank You all for the wealth of Info. I do have a question, how do you find someone that will do extensions for you. I looked in the phone book and on-line. I can't find anyone, except the bellagio(sp?) ones. I called about those and they are 1500. If I want them curled it's the cost of the perm added on. Plus then 200 everytime I go back. I like the shrinkies method you all talked about. Any info would be much apperciated. OH I am in the Allentown, Bethlehem area in Pa. Thanks Tipsea (Eva Long)

Hi Eva, they best place to find out about extensionists in your area is right here on these boards. Here you will hear the good.... and the bad. You dont get that from a phonebook or a website! It is entirely possible to DIY if your interested there are tons of posts with lots of DIY info. But DIY is not for some people, they prefer to just not mess with their own hair and would prefer to leave it to the professionals, and thats cool too! Right off hand I cant think of anyone in your area, but Im sure someone will chime in and give you some info! Another great place to ask is http://p080.ezboard.com/bhair18356 - http://p080.ezboard.com/bhair18356 in the "find extension people in your area" thread.
Good Luck! And if you start getting the idea that DIY might work for you, then youve come to the right place....any questions, just ask away!

Thanks Sherrie, I will check out the other board. I was thinking about doing it myself, don't know if I'm coordinated enough to do the back of my head. I have short hair too, so knowing me I would do it wrong. This is such a great board and you all are so friendly. Thanks a bunch!!! Eva

You get used to it with practice, heck, Im at the point now that I can do things in reverse looking in the mirror just about as easily as if I were looking at it the right way! LOL I have quite the little setup for doing my own hair. Its actually quite hilarious to walk in when Im doing my hair. I have a bunch of cheap walmart full length mirrors, that are hinged together with little hardware store hinges that I put in a sort of semi circle (so I can see the back at any angle) then I have 2 clamp lights that I clamp on top of the mirrors for BRIGHT lighting. Then I sit in a swivel computer chair with a full length mirror that I prop up in front of me and even stradle the mirror between my legs at times if I need a better view! And a small table on each side to hold all my tools and supplies! Oh and so long as your hair is long enough to put in extensions my thought is that with shorter hair you have less to get in the way and I think it might be slightly easier doing it yourself opposed to having longer hair.

Dont forget the camcorder idea, I cant remember who came up with that one but its a winner. Sit a camcorder behind you and a TV in front and you can see the back of your head perfectly. Should work the same with a digital cam and your computer.

Thank you everyone. I think I'm gonna give it a try. I talked to my Hubby today and he said he would help too. Now one more question, do I just go and have them cut like a regular haircut when I'm done? Eva

depends on the style you're wanting. It seems like most people who wear extensions either wear them superstraight in which case only trimming is necessary and you could do that yourself.Look at Kristins galleries www.haircandy.net Or the others seem to just do a light layering with either a razor or scissors, cutting in a razor simulated style. And then another idea it to layer the strands before you put them in like in this thread http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/viewthread.asp?forum=AMB_AP934431446&id=4691 - http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/viewthread.asp?forum=AMB_AP934431446&id=4691
All of which are pretty easy to do yourself. But if you prefer to have someone else cut your hair try to find someone that is experienced with extensions if possible. They do cut different than natural hair and it would SUCK to have someone do a hack job on your new extensions! Also make sure they cut it dry instead of wet!

Cutting with a razor is best. Blunt scissor cuts on extension hair is unforgiving! Razor cutting looks more natural because it cuts with a tapered edge as opposed to a hard, blunt edge.
So great your hubby will do your hair! I can't even get mine to just do a trim straight across the bottom of the hair!
