We had a long discussion about it a while ago. Quite a few people tried it, some with success and some without. All I can say is try it and see if it works for you. I just got my shrinkies from Doc Locks yesterday. Im going to get some clear tubing from a local electrical supply and compare the difference, I wont always have $35 to spend on shrinkies either and a cheaper alternative would be nice. ------------- SHE human hair blend, 18", #4 with Supertape. |

| LOL I'd just like to make a comment regarding shrinkies. I've recently had a client who has very greasy hair at the roots, it doesn't matter what she does she can't get it totally clean. Anyway I can't for the life of me get even the Dr Locks shrinkies to stay in her hair, I put them in and they just pull straight out so I've had to use micro rings xxxxxxx |

That's funny, Amanda. Isaac recently told me that one girl he knows simply cannot keep extensions in her hair. He's tried lot of different methods, and they always fall out. It's the only time he's ever come across this in many years of doing extensions. I imagine the oily scalp presents a real challenge. I am going on the Shrink Links course on Sunday, which is sort of like the shrinkies. I think Metalgirl did mention that clients with oily scalps did have slippage. So I guess it's a common problem for oily scalps in general.

Oh, I had a thought! (watch out, lmao) maybe instead of pulling the hair straight through the shrinkie, we can set the real hair in a tiny braid, and when the glue in the shrinkie bonds to that, it might have a better hold instead of just the straight hair, like a texture could help it hold better. that was my thought, lol ------------- |

oh no! my hair is really oily. I hope all this excitement and investment isn't worthless I have very oily skin and hair which I have never been upset by, because it also equals very healthy skin and hair. But dammit, I will give up lookin 10 yrs younger for the chance to play with my hair!! Guess we'll see. ------------- |

That's a brill idea Kalika but I think it could possibly take a lot longer to do, and people around my area just don't want to pay too much for their extensions so I don't dare off that or they'll be wanting it done at the same price LOL xx ------------- |

STS, it's still worth a try. I have kinda oily hair, but the shrinkies hold all right (it seems like mostly undercooked ones have come out). I think if you wash and thoroughly dry your hair right before you install, you'll be working with a nice clean surface for the shrinkie adhesive to stick to. ------------- |

Amanda try pre-tipping with waxy glue, one that will melt with the shrinkie hair. The glue alone inside the shrinkie probably isn't enough to hold on to her hair. Yeah it's more glue but it's still not as much as fusion methods. Also make sure she uses a clarifying shampoo and wash really good before applying. I'd also try making the bond a little bigger and making sure it's nice and taut inside the shrinkie to have little wiggle room. Try even applying the shrinkie to her hair when it's wet since her hair is at it's thinnest when it's wet. Another thing you could try is using two shrinkies or two extend tubes. | I like the idea of the waxy glue, I don't think putting two shrinkies in would make any difference, you wouldn't believe it if you saw how easy the shrinkie came out, it was as though i'd never heated it up, I've never had this problem before, so far though the micro rings haven't slipped, the test will be when she washed it, if they slip then maybe I'll try two of them, where would I get wax glue from x |

I make my tips using the glue I got with my Torain system eons ago. With fusion there's two types of glue, the waxy stuff that comes off with oil and keratin that comes off with acetone. Torain is the waxy glue and to behonest, I'm convinced it's the same stuff that you get at Michael's or any other art supply store for .20 cents. But on second thought, since your clients hairs is oily, making the tips with Keratin glue might be better. Yeah, I was def still gonna try. I can't shower at night because by the end of the next day it is awful, but not as bad as amanda just said the other gals is. I don't usually worry about it being oily, but I will pick up a shampoo for oily hair and use that till I am able to do them. That may help. Plus puffs advice right above. The keratin glue....that link you posted to afropuff, do I need to get the gun and that whole kit to pretip with keratin?? I am a bit confused. ------------- |

SqueezeTheShaman- my hair is also extra extra oily...not able to shower at night b/c i feel like a big greaseball in the morning. Lately since getting a sew- in weave with gross, tangly human hair i wasn't able to wash everyday, and i honestly feel like now my scalp is producing less oil...i could go 3-4 days if i wanted now. I also use a tea tree oil shampoo (bss generic brand) and that seems to keep it quite clean. i think the waiting a few days between washing has really helped a lot in keeping down the oil, more so than a particular brand of shampoo or anything. ------------- |

yes i noticed that too! I stopped washing it every day, when I started to stay home and not work, and it has gotten better. And it totally makes sense. Doens't have to produce as much, when it is still there...And yeah, I was planning on lookin for tea tree or peppermint, thought that was good for oil too. thanks ------------- |

I've never used the keratin glue, just the waxy one. I made the mistake of buying the whole kit when all I needed was the sticks and a $5.00 hot pot from Michaels. I heat the glue up in the hot pot, dip it and make my tips. I've never worked with Keratin before but I think you can buy the sticks and melt them in a hot pot or a glue gun also. Glue guns and hot pots cost under five bucks. You can get them at Michaels or Walmart. ------------- |

On one of the toupee sites I ran across they recommended using a cotton ball dipped in alcohol and clean the roots before applying the toupee tape, I wonder if that might work for oily hair and shrinkies/microlinks? ------------- SHE human hair blend, 18", #4 with Supertape. |
