Here's a snafu I haven't been able to overcome. How do you blend hair colors? I'm thinking of synthetic bulk hair specifically but all extension hair generally. I tried to follow Isaac's 'deck of cards' technique but it doesn't work all that well for me - I still get wads of loose hair all over the place and can't brush the blended hair without losing a lot in the process. I tried cat hair brushes to hold the ends while I mixed two colors, but it didn't contain the hair very well. What DID get blended turned out just how I wanted it, but it was a mess. There must be a better way. I know there are things called blending boards and hackles but can't find them online - except that one posted a while back, but it came with NO directions . I can't find a tutorial anywhere about how to blend loose hair. Any suggestions or points in the general direction are greatly appreciated! I refuse to accept defeat. |

Syren~ I just watched the Dome Foundation video and they grabbed 3 different loose synth colors and held them up together with one hand, brushing the hair side to side over each other mixing them. Then she grabbed the opposite end and repeated the same on that end, blending all the 3 colors together. That's the only way I've seen synth mixed together,as well as Issac doing his shuffling method. I use that blending board that was mentioned in the blending board thread. You can also get drawing mats here http://www.additionallengths.co.uk/accessories.asp - http://www.additionallengths.co.uk/accessories.asp I believe mixing mats are not suitable for fibre hair as it gets tangled in the mats. So mixing/drawing mats would only be for human hair blending. You just place the colors on top of each other and sandwich them together and then draw the root ends towards you. |

Save a Stray - How did you get the dome foundation video to work? Are you in the UK? I ordered it and was SO bummed when I received it because it doesn't work in my VCR and I've been too lazy to have it converted to PAL or whatever the US VCR standard is. Thanks - Fina ------------- |

Fina~ No problem. I live in Los Angeles,CA. They ask you when you first go on the site what country you are in, so I just figured they would send me the video that works in that country. Mine worked just fine thought. Can you send it back and tell them to send you the right one? The only thing with this method I did not like was you need an assistant to help you(a four braid is used). I did learn how to mix synth colors from it. It is a very brief description of the method really, not one of those videos that shows you in great detail. I will not be able to do this method by myself!!

I just take a small (about an eighth of a pack) section of each color, lay one on top of the other, spreading them out a little, spray on some silicone spray, and brush the colors together while holding them tightly at the top (where the hair folds over). To blend very thoroughly, I will then cut the section in half (vertically), take one half and lay it on top of the toher, and then brush that together. The spray and the tight-holding is essential- otherwise hair will just slip right out of the bundle when you brush it. -Rae ------------- http://www.hairalchemy.net - Hair Alchemy |
