I am new and have read the first two threads for beginers. With that said here is where I stand.
I have very fine hair with a body wave perm in it that goes to the very top of my sholders. The perm has been growing out for about 3 months now.
After reading for hours it seemed that the best method for me was the weft weave way. But after the last persons post who seems to have the same type of hair. She stated that you can tell that you have them with my combination of hair and length.

The other problem I have is that no one in my area knows how do do extensions any other way. I contacted our local beauty school and they said they were willing to learn if I had some sort of instructions.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
K

Weaves don't stay in fine, silky hair as well as they do in nappy hair.

The doctored locks site has a tutorial on shrinkies. Why don't you start looking there?

If the extensionists you have spoken to do weaves, surely they're aware of what pinchbraiding is. You should have them look into it.

Welcome!

You'll get lots of different opinions about whether wefts or strand-by-strand methods are better for your hair type. But if your hair is to your shoulders, it isn't what I'd consider short really, so I think you might have more options that you think.

Based on my experiences and research, I think any of the following would be suitable for you. For DIY, shrinkies or strand-by-strand extendtubes; if you're getting it done at a salon, pinchbraids (also known as string or HairPolice method), heat-seals (also known as Dome method, but not to be confused with fusion, which is something else), or woven wefts (but only if synthetic hair is incorporated into the tracks to add some bulk).

Anyway, I would recommend you continue to read and research, and even take some photos of your hair (or find some that are similar online), as well as some photos of what you'd like your hair to look like. If you post those, we can get a better idea of what you're looking for. Keep in mind that you'll also need to figure out what kind of hair you want to get (human/synth, straight/wavy, length, brand, etc.), as well as your budget, and the best method for you may also depend on your choices in that regard.

Good luck! :)

With the length of hair that you have, you could go either with a sewn in weft or the strand shrinkie method.

My hair is baby fine and very thin, and a weave did stay in the hair. I think it just depends how skilled the person is that is applying it to the hair. When my stylist did a weave on me, she braided a strand of synthetic hair into the cornrow to help 'anchor' my fine hair and decrease the slippage, and it worked fine. I would only have to get it redone every 8-10 weeks because it had grown out, not because it slipped out.

Now, that said, I think most people find that strand extensions (such as the shrinkies) are much more comfortable to wear. I personally like the look of wefts (they don't look 'stringy' in my hair like the strands tend to) but prefer the comfort of strand methods.

If you're not sure about what way to go, why do you try wearing some clip in wefts and see how you like that.

I did try the clip in and about half way through the day they slipped out. I ordered weft human hair and am having them braided in next week. I will post before, durring and after pictures.
I was hoping I could try this to see how it goes.

thanks for everyones input. This is a wonderful board.
