Well since I cannot find the thermo in the colors I need I thought I would try a little experimenting on the ebonyline fiber that I have in 613 with some hair color that I had in the cupboard. I used Revlon Colorsilk Light golden brown.

In the photos there are 3 colors. (not in order)
1. is 613 not dyed
2. dye left on for the normal 25 minutes. Which gave a very slight tint maybe a #22 color
3. dye left on for an hour. Gave a light brown color about a # 12-14 color

The color has slight pinkish cast (which is increased with the camera flash) so Im not sure if a different color or brand would give a better result. Also this dye has probably been in my cabinet for over a year. Also my lighting in the house at night doesnt give me a true color, so I will be able to get a better look at the color in the daylight.

In the bottom photo, the middle one and the bottom one look like they'd make a nice blend. I'm amazed synth held the color. The top one does look a little unusual with an ashy kinda quality.

OK, and I've gotta know something because that curl is fabulous. What is the dimension of your wand? (ooooo, that sounds like a bad pick up line I'd use.)

LOL that does sound like a bad pick up line! hehehe
Anyway...I used a 5/8 barrell curling iron. And yeah that darker color in the photo is an odd color,(almost reminds me of the odd color I got from PH, hafer I think) but until I see it in daylight Im not sure the true color. Also it was old dye...and I dont know if a different dye, semi permanent or different colors would give different results. Im heading for hte beauty store tomorrow so I may pick up a few more colors to play with!

I am totally blown away. I cannot believe you've dyed this stuff, Sher. Wow!

I really must've gotten the wrong Ebonyline hair 'cause there's no way mine would produce those curls.

This is serious progress! :)

Well dont get too excited .....now that its daylight and I get a TRUE view of the color its hideous! The color is so unnatural and definitely has a pupleish/pinkiesh tone! Eeeeewwww! I thought about picking up some other colors today at the BSS but Im thinking there may be a reason that you cant find much of a selection in thermal fibers in the blonde to light brown range. Maybe these colors are harder to produce or something?......

Oh and the hair definitely feels a little rougher after the dying so thats not a good sign either!

Sher,

So when you say "unnatural", do you mean the dye just sort of stained the hair, but the hair didn't pick up the color all that well or evenly because it doesn't really penetrate into the strands? Just curious. :)

Hey Jenny, the hair took the dye very evenly actually but it is the actual color that is funky. It is more of a purple-ish toned color than brown in the daylight(the darker color) The lighter color has a pinkish silver cast. They look different at night in house light but in daylight the are very unreal unnautural colors more purple-ish/pink-ish than brown.

Hey Sherrie...
Just thought you'd like to know...Sometimes that "pinkish" cast, Dusty Mauve as I like to call it, can occur on natural(blonde) hair. The problem lies in the formulation. I'd give it another try... just use a different color. You said you frequent Sally's... try Wella Color Charm.
Also, did you try to wash it? The color may run right off the hair...or maybe not. You may be on to something!

Gina I wish I had seen your post before I went to Sally's, I even looked at the Wella color charm and didnt pick up any. I was gonna give up on the dying thing but youve given me new hope. You described the color perfectly. Maybe there is hope yet! But my experimentation will probably be put off til next weekend now! Oh, yes I did wash the hair and the color is still there.
