I keep reading for people to post their pics so I thought I would post mine and I could get some advice. Our plan is to do pinchbraiding. My hair is pretty thick but as you can see short.It's longer on top about 4-6 inches depending on which strand you grab :) I want to go longer then shoulder length. I figure if it's too long, I can cut it or get it a little layered. What do you suggest? Thanks a million    |

Sunmune~ I don’t know too much about pinchbraids as I have never done them. Jenny the Guru on this board has pinchbraids with the string (same as Hairpolice method). She will probably be on the board on the next hour or so and she will definitely respond to your post when she sees it I'm sure. I do Euro Interlock weaves and I have done hair as short as yours on the back. I believe you need to have 2-3" of hair to pinchbraid. I have posted some links for you to read on pinchbraids. Hey Sunmune, I think pinchbraids are a great idea for you. Are you planning to get them done in a salon or DIY? I only ask because it's a pretty tricky method to do yourself; that said, there are many people who do it themselves (but I don't). Just looking at your hair (and especially if you're planning to add layers, which I think is a good plan), you're going to need to install a lot of hair. Do you want human or synth? looks short for pinchbraids. Id go with track and sew or a strand by strand method (ala fusion/shrinkies/microlinks etc) ------------- |

I'm not sure, the thing to note is that you look like you have nice strong hair. Is that your natural color? If it's unprocessed it will put up with a lot more guff.. In which case fusion could work. The other thing that will be interesting is that it's been a long time since I've seen someone with hair closely cropped in the back, so I'm super curious about how it's going to look, so make sure you post photos. It's really important that whoever does your hair cares about prior chemical service, and your long term expectations for your natural hair. The good news is, the way your front is cut is going to suit hair extensions beautifully. ------------- |

OK...phew...First, My friend and I were going to do it ourselves. She has had hers done many times via pinchbraid and she's gotten it done professionally. The only bad part is we have to travel to Amsterdam and last time Michelle (my friend went) they ruined her hair. So we figured we'd buy a wig and practice before jumping in. I'm going to buy my hair in the next month and want HH. My hair hasn't been dyed in over a year so what you see is naturale :) My hair grows decently fast so I'm waiting another month or so for the bottom to grow out (as you can see, its growing and looks....pretty unkept at this point). From my neck (hairline) to an inch and a 1/2 up the back of my head is short, about 1/2 an inch. From there it goes to about an inch and longer. I want something that is going to be easy on my hair. I've been treating it like gold, since, it went down the tubes when I got pregnant and took me a couple of months to get it's luster back after my son was born. I'm wondering if maybe I can combine two methods? Pinchbraid where it's long and then something different in the back? Thanks for the welcome, I love the board. Hey Metalgirl, There are a few different names out there and slight variations of the method. You would know this one as the Interlocking Technique (Lisha Coleman). I do a slightly different technique from Lisha, but it's basically the same exact method. I like it because it's a pretty flat weave and you can work on pretty short hair too.
