I was having some problems curling the synth with my iron because the clamp part was creating its own crimp and the ends sometimes got a bit frazzled, so I wrapped a damp strand in a piece of paper towel, sprayed it with water, then curled, and voila! No flaws or frizziness. It worked much better for me than having the end directly in contact with the iron.

Don't they use those small pieces of tissue paper for perms? Or am I on crack? (I was 13 the last time I got a perm, so I might be imagining this.)

:)

Gina,

Can you get perm papers at Ricky's or standard beauty-supply stores? :)

Great discovery Jenn. We keep learning new stuff everyday about the synthetic. It wont be long and we'll have it mastered! Its really encouraging to me to know that it is possible to use the curling iron on the PH, thats the only thing thats be holding me back on PH. I just dont get the control I want from rollers. I am a whiz at curling iron styling though so all these new discoveries are great news for me!

And yes, you should be able to get end papers at any bss that carries perm products.

Ooh geez, I wonder if a felt/velvet-covered curling iron would work even better! Then maybe you could use higher heat (for faster curling and tighter curls) and not frazzle the hair.

I tried the velvet covered iron a while back and it did nothing, I didnt try it on PH (didnt have any PH then). I tried it on Pro-hair. But it seems like the velvet iron did not get hot enough at all to curl the synthetic hair. I can try it again though with PH. But good luck to anybody who tries to find a velvet curling iron to buy. I looked high and low and everywhere, I had to have Leia in CA buy one and send it to me!

Jenn...
Sherrie already answered this... yeah you can get perm wraps at any BSS. I use them even when I do hot roller sets on natural hair.
The problem with hot rollers is that the curl doesn't start at scalp. So, that's where the curling iron comes in. If u start the spiral at the root and continue to spiral towards the ends... you'll have more lift at root, and more even of a curl.
Does that make since?
Gina

BTW...Where U at in Ohio Sherrie?

Yeah, I'm excited too--we'll all have this mastered in no time.

Gina: That definitely makes sense. Next time I'll curl "in reverse" and we'll see how it goes...
