Anyone who has read my posts know I also wear a very short pixie and am an advocate of the style.
But I believe that Jamie looked better when she was younger(and her face was thinner) with this style. She has gotten too old and her face too heavy for a style this short.
I don't mean to be too critical of her, I admire her as a person and as an actress and I usually like her in a short pixie, but if she is going to continue to wear a style this short she needs to lose a little weight in her face and quite frankly do a better job with her makeup and earrings.

I agree with you Lady Maria. However, perhaps it is the angle in the picture. I have seen her in other pictures lately & she looked better. Or, it isn't the picture & she just went a little too short this time! A little length & perhaps curl (think Halle Berry) would do her good! (and of course, the makeup & earrings as LM said)

I'm thinking it's the lighting.
I've alway thought she looked good in short hair, and the Pixie is one that she wears well.
I can't imagine she'd look good with it any shorter.

I must respectfully disagree with you. Sure, Jamie Lee is getting older (who isn't), but she certainly isn't fat. I think her hair looks absolutely stunning, and she should be applauded for having the courage to wear her hair the way she wants to.

Hi everyone, I sort of agree with you Lady Maria, perhaps it is a bit too short -but even so, I still think she looks good.

Some interesting points have been made by all of you.
Les, I didn't mean to say Jamie is fat , she isn't, but her face looks a little heavy and puffy.
AggiePam and WM, You two may be right too, it could be the angle at which the picture was taken or the lighting that is unflattering to her. I would have to see a few more pictures of her from different angles and lighting to be really objective.
I also have no problem with the very short length of her crop. As I mentioned before, if a woman can wear her hair that short, good for her!

I like Jamie Lee and I like her short hair when she cuts it that short. She is older now but she looks just fine!!!

i agree with LadyMaria. she looked sexier with such short hair when she was younger and her face wasn't that 'thick'

Hi LadyMaria,
Yes, I totally agree with you and that goes along with the topic of who looks good in a Pixie. I know that Jamie Lee is making a big deal about her age and the fact that she is not trying to do a lot of hair and makeup maintenance these days. She recently posed on More magazine and made a huge press noise about "letting it all hang out" so this is probably just part of the ongoing focus she has.
Best wishes, Karen

Karen,
It is nice that Jamie isn't vain about her looks but if she is making a "big noise" about not being vain, it kind of defeats the purpose of being modest doesn't it! A truly modest person wouldn't need to let everyone know they aren't vain.
I wish she would pay a little more attention to her makeup, jewelry and earrings. Her very short crop might look a little better on her if she did.
Why looked unusually plain or dumpy, even if you are older.
And it's not like she is THAT old. What is she , late 40s maybe 50? She is not 85 or 95 years old. She is an attractive middle aged lady. she should look like one!
At least that is how I feel about it.

Hi LadyMaria,
I totally agree with you. It is almost like she is going to the opposite extemes to make a point. And yes, she is only in her 40s. If she doesn't want to do anything with her makeup at least she could wear some nice earrings to show off the hairstyle. There are lots of 40s+ stars out there with shorter dos that look great and don't have to trumpet the "Let it all hang out no matter how unattractive it looks"
Best wishes, Karen

As someone around the same age as Jamie Lee, I for one am glad that she is acting as a role model for us. Unless you have experienced them first hand you can't imagine the drastic physical changes that take place in your forties. Although you can fight them (with lots of money and suffering) I think Jamie Lee is saying why should we? The changes are natural and should not be considered ugly (on a woman only, men are considered "better" as they age). As someone who was once celebrated for her figure, why shouldn't Jamie Lee show that even icons can't fight aging. So why waste time and money on maintenance that has questionable results. There are more important things to do with your time.
There is nothing more ridiculous than a forty something trying to keep up with her teenage or twenty something daughters. You just can't do it without seeming like a cartoon. Our grandmothers didn't fight it and I think they were better able to enjoy their lives (and didn't embarass their children and grandchildren).

Hi Demodoll,
I know personally what happens when you hit your 40s. :-) I agree with you that it should be OK for either men or women to be comfortable with how they age through the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s etc.
Unfortunately it just doesn't always work that way. Recent research has shown that men and women with gray hair are less likely to get a job or even worse the same pay as someone the same age with no gray hair. Is that discrimination? Yes. Is it reality? Yes again. While I agree that Jamie Lee should be proud of her age and do it her way, I think there is a fine line between aging gracefully and not looking your best. There should be nothing wrong with taking a few minutes to put on some attractive earrings and a little lipstick to look nice, which was the comment here about how she could look better. I am not advocating that she go under the knife or that she not feel good about where she is, but I think that anyone whether 10 or 90 can and should try to always look their best. It actually makes for a better role model for the rest of the 40s+ women she is responding to. Sort of like, yes I am getting older and I'm not going to fight it with surgery or other options but I still want to look my best at the age that I am. Just my opinion. :-)
Best wishes, Karen

Gosh, I guess I was ranting. I certainly don't mean don't try and look your best and heaven knows I love make up and hair stuff. I think Jamie Lee is trying to start some kind of movement where women are allowed to have short, gray hair and still get the job--sort of like that poem where the old lady allows herself to wear purple. That is what I meant. She has actually admitted to plastic surgery but said she was sorry she did it and wouldn't advise it. I think we are all misled by the airbrushed pictures of our favorite style stars and feel that to look right, we should look like them. And they don't even look like that. That is where a lot of problems begin. But, I guess this might belong on the hair politics board.

Hi Demodoll,
Well I didn't think you were ranting at all. I liked your points but thought I would just add my 2 cents worth as well. :-)

What's with this woman? The shorter and shorter pixie style is fine with me, but what is this ego trip of false modesty? I have to agree with Maria and Karen:- Yes woman, please wear a little makeup and earrings! Truth be told her face does look a little on the fat side, which is different because she used to have a thin face and a nice slender athletic looking body.

I am 45. And when I hit 40 nothing really major happened. But then when my kids left the house I begin to notice a whole new me! I went really short ( I mean REALLY short) with my hair. I wear tons of jewelry, and I do dress nicer - for me though. I actually feel great about myself! I donot know what it is when you hit 40's but I think that something inside you clicks and you rediscover yourself! I am having the time of my life now! And best of all, my husband likes the way that I take care of me! I also feel that you get one chance in this life - why waste it! This is just my opinion! :-) Debbie

I always thought Jamie had very thin hair, which was why she kept it short. Any comments on this from experts.
Every time I read the subject line "Jamie Lee Curtis shorter and shorter," I think to myself, that's pretty much impossible. Then I realize it's the same thread that's been going for weeks now.
I'm stunned that there's that much interest in Britney Spears' hair to get up to 40 comments from our group. But that doesn't match the shock to find out that I'm response number 19 about Jamie Lee Curtis' hair. I just didn't think she was that popular any more.

Gord, As a short hair lover she has always been one of my fav's... That picture is just about as bad as she could look... I'm with the majority on this one..
Jamie Lee put on some makeup and put a rinse through your hair... Your making me feel old!

Gord,
I think the reason there is so much interest in Jamie is not only because she is a famous actress but she goes on talk shows alot and discusses various things. She is still in the media quite a bit.
And of course some of us are interested in women's short hairstyles.

Hi all,
Well it is true that I have very long hair but I have to say that I also appreciate and admire short hair on both men and women when it is right for them. A great example is Martina McBride whom I think looks better in her current flirty short hair than she did with longer locks.
I also think that Jamie looks great in short hair as a general rule of thumb but I also still think that adding a little bling never hurt a thing. :-)
