When A burst onto the scene in the U.S. with "Amelie," she sported a very short haircut in the movie.

This haircut was perfect for the character, but it looked awfully unattractive. The bangs were too short and the bob looked butchered. Supposedly, this cut sent scores of women to the hairdresser. I never saw one, thankfully, but that was the story.

By the time "Amelie" hit these shores, the film had been finished for at least a year, if not two. Audrey's hair was long. Had she grown it out? Were they extensions? Did she cut it in the first place or was that a wig? I don't know. Maybe someone else does.

She looked attractive with the long locks.

Miramax has another Audrey Tautou film in theaters now, "Dirty Pretty Things." Love the title, but haven't seen the film. In the film, Audrey's hair is long. She was being interviewed for the film on IFC. She has an incredibly gorgeous short haircut. The photo below is the best I could find. It looks good, but trust me the picture doesn't do her justice.

So, it isn't that short hair doesn't look on Audrey. It looks really good, but only with a good haircut.

In the first pic of her with short hair,
she just has a corny old-fashioned short hairstyle, probably just for a movie part.

I don't really think she looks that good with long hair either, she just looks very plain with long hair.

The last pic of her with a cute short haircut, shorter than the previous short haircut, looks nice.
It is a nice modern short style. She really looks good with that sort of short hair.

Ooh, the girl from Amelie! She's really cute :-) ! *glomps onto her* I love her in that movie. I even liked her hair in that movie, whether it was her real hair or not.
Definitely she doesn't look as cute with long hair, though. Not that it looks unattractive, necessarily, just it makes her face look all square and not so cute. She seems to need shorter, perkier hair to look her best.
I was thinking I hadn't seen the hair from the newest pics before, but now I think about it, I might've. Hard to tell if it's the same as I saw or not, with those heavy shadows. *shrugs* I guess it's not too bad, but I would like to see it above her ears. Or failing that, I wonder how she's look in kind of a spiral-curled bob thing? That would go well with her dimples, I think.

if you check out wireimage for alst year, Audrey had her a lot shorter. Pixie above the ears.

The Amelie hair was hers. She has said she liked it, but required way too much upkeep to keep it looking good.

My opinion? Not that anyone asked for it, but I think the Amelie haircut is her best. All of the others (whether long or short), just look sooooo "average".

I really need a subscription to that service, get a better look at all those tiny pictures :-P . The shorter hair looked nice by what I could see, though-- showed off her sweet face and dimples :-) . *glomps onto her some more*

He he... a topic about Audrey Tautou, nice... I come from the same village, never met her though, or maybe I did and do not recall because sher wasn't an actress at that time...
Anyway, I found that the hairdo in Amélie was a shame, but then again it was created to give her character thing peculiar, quite unforgettable image. I'm not among the worshippers of the movie in any case.
Yes, the long hair in the 2nd movie is awfully nondescript; she looks a lot more attractive with the short messy style.

*Tony said it best.
*The word to best describe her is ADORABLE!
Especially with her new short cut,(not the first short cut). She looks just fine with longer hair too. A very pretty young woman.
Who says there is nothing good about the French?

I think she looks very cute with the long hair. The hair cut for the movie was alright, just alright nothing more, if they styled it different she would have looked better with the short hair in the movie but thats the way they wanted her to look for some crazy reason. The latest short cut looks awesome on her, very sexy, its all about how you wear it not the lenght.

From her latest movie "Da Vinci Code":

Is her hairstyle better than on "Amelie" (2001)?

Thanks for those pics, Anonzzz. The movie, "Dirty Pretty Things" was from 2003, so it's already 3 years old. AT likes  to go from short to long to short with amazing rapidity. As far as I know, she doesn't usually use extensions, so I guess her hair grows very quickly. Mostly, she seems to prefer longer hair, but she cuts it with some regularity. She is rather like Winona Ryder in my opinion: beautiful, boyish, and with a certain androgynous quality that she is more than willing to exploit.
