I can`t live without my plastic hair pins. I think they are Goody brand but I haven`t seen them for sale in Canada for a long time. Are they still available? I am also looking for all plastic barrettes. I have heard that metal barrettes cause breakage. Is this true? I have some all plastic barrettes, sort of a long oval ring shape with a little stick that hinged from one side. The hair would show through the oval ring. I think they were from Germany. If metal is so bad for hair, why doesn`t anyone make plastic barrettes?

Not that this should matter to anyone, but hair jewelry does absolutely nothing for me.

If you want to try metal barrettes go to http://www.byrddesigns.com/ - http://www.byrddesigns.com/
The backing is made in france and assemble in USA and they are wonderful. Those backings will not tear your hair. I bought almost everyone of them plus my friends that have bought some from this company were very impressed. They are very beautiful and years ago I brought the line in Canada ( I stop selling it at the time because of the exchange rate etc but has nothing to do with the quality. I certainly know about their wonderful line of jewelry. Very very beautiful.) and sold it in boutiques for a tiny while. Every boutique really thought that the quality was wonderful. NOt cheap but worth every penny. Very beautiful stones etc.

Oh my gosh, I know exactly what kind of barrettes you are referring to, and I wish that I could find them again!
When I was younger, that is all I ever wore in my hair. They came in various colors and were exactly as you described them, hinged on one side, and you sort of looped them through the other side and the stick came out on top. Oh yes! I miss those!
As for the pins, I find them at the local beauty supply stores for pretty cheap, but yes, you are right, the Goody company makes them as well. I typically find them at Wal Mart.
Good post! Brought back memories for me.
:-)
