While celebrities inspried hair changes before the mid-70's, (Louise Brooks, Mia Farrow), the first great celeb inspiration was Dorothy Hamill's short wedge in 1976. Women everywhere chopped off the locks. I'm listing below the great celeb inspirations.

Feel free to add yours (I'm sure I forgot a few) and rate the inspirations (1 to 10) by 1) how influential it was 2) the attractiveness of the cut.

1976 - Dorothy Hamill's wedge
1977 - Farrah's flowing locks with wings
1980-1 - Princess Di's short cut
1982-1988 - Dynasty/Dallas big hair (Heather Locklear et al)
1989 - Linda Evangalista's short crop
1993-1999 Winona Ryder's pixie
1994 - The "Rachel"
1995-1999 - Meg Ryan's various short styles
2002-2004 - Layered cuts worn from the ears to a little past the chin by Mandy Moore, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Stiles

Of the women out there, how many of these have you walked into the salon and asked for?

When I first went to short hair I didn't pick a style from a celebrity, I chose a style from a beauty and hairstyle magazine. I was influenced by celebrities wearing short bob cuts and pixies but no celebrity in particular.

I had the Dorothy Hamill wedge! I remember how much I loved it, but that was the only time I really went to the salon and had my hair cut like a celeb. But, then again, I was only 9 years old and I wanted to do what everybody else was doing. When I got older I started wearing my hair the way I liked, not like what others were doing..and, I got teased alot for not following the crowd, but I got through it.

Most of the hairstyles I've imitated have been those of fictional people, largely of the animated variety. Do they count?

Hi LLHonie03..I'm not sure if that question was directed to me, but since I said that I had the wedge, I guess I'll answer it! No, I have no clue on how to cut the wedge. I only had it done to my hair and that was once 28 years ago!

Impossible. You weren't even born 28 years ago. How long is your hair anyway?

Hi Kramer...Yes, I will be 37 at the end of Sept!

Right now my hair is just past my collar bone, but I'm hoping to grow it to the middle of my back. It just seems like it's taking forever!

Kathy,
I noticed your usename "cantwaitforlonghair". But I was curious why you prefer to wear your hair long?
Also why did you cut your hair to your current shorter hairstyle?

Just wondering what goes through women's minds......
Thanks

Hi NapeTrimmer..
I like to wear my hair longer because, personally, I think it looks better on me. Short hair doesn't flatter my face. But, it can't be too long because then it just looks weighed down. And, I really don't like long layers. The reason I cut it was a mistake. A few years back I went in for something "different" and I came out chopped. I almost cried for days. It was full of short layers, so the past few years were spent growing out the layers, cutting the back so the layers would grow in quickly. Now that it's all one length again, it shouldn't be too hard to grow longer!

cantwaitforlonghair,
My theory has been if you have a great smile you will look great is short hair. From your Avatar, you definitely have a great smile. Actually, I think you would look fantastic with a chin length bob. Just my opinion.

Thanks! but I'm still going for long. But, I'm not ruling out ever going short again. And, when that day comes, I more than likely will go for a bob..but a bob without bangs. Not crazy about them.
