Date Posted: February 01 2002 at 9:24pm I have a problem. I have a blonde highlighted hair. Well, I decided I wanted to go brunette. So, I went to the store and picked up some Herbal Essences hair dye. I think the color is called Spicy Ginger. Well, I left it in and when I washed it out my hair was fire-engine red. I have no idea what to do, and I don`t want to cut it!! Help!! If I had your problem I would go to the beauty store and pick a "cool" color meaning natural or ash and puck a brown shade. The new Wella color in the blue package is a (2) that will only deposit color and will help you tone down the red. I have used it in the past many times. Remember for future use....stay with the cool colors as you have plenty of warmth already. I did go get an ash blond color and it toned it down a bit but it was still very red. I ended up spending five hours and $120.00 in a salon specializing in color correction. They had to apply brown dye twice before the color looked anywhere close to normal. It is dark brown now which is OK and looks pretty good but a lot of people say they like me better blonde. The chemicals needed to bring out lightening in the hairstrand is what can damage the hair. I hope you learned a lesson this time and no it is not to color your own hair. Do a test strand first to avoid disasters and also to stay in the cooler colors as you have a very warm natural pigment in your hair. Color on...... -------------
