Okay... Here's my problem... I have naturally straight hair. I have no problem with coloring it, putting it up, anything. Three weeks ago my best friend showed up with the most beautiful curls, and her hair is very similar to mine, just shorter...
So, stupid me. I got a perm two weeks ago, and I did everything the stylist told me to do: wait two full days before washing it, fluff it up from underneath, scrunch it, etc... within three days the curls had fallen out. Literally after the first time I washed it the curls started falling out. I thought maybe it was just because my hair was wet, so I put some phomollient foam mousse in it, and scrunched to get the curls... Only half of them curled back up again, the rest of them were crunchy straight sticks.
I went back to the salon Tuesday of this week, they looked at my straggly hair (no styling done at all, freshly washed and air dried) and said the perm didn't take and that they would redo it free of charge. I said okay, thinking that since it had already been permed once, less than a week ago, that the second perm would take better because my hair was already slightly damaged from the first time.. I got it done on Wednesday this week. Now it's Friday. The curls have already started falling out and I haven't even washed it yet!
What is going on?? I called the salon again, they told me that they would redo my perm a THIRD time, but not for another two weeks because my hair needs time to recover. In the meantime I get to look like a wet dog, or something. It's awful. Does anyone have a clue what's going on? Did I do something wrong?
This is so frustrating. I've never had a perm before and after this I don't think I ever will again. I went to a reputable salon, and saw the same stylist that did my friend's hair, and she was so confident that my hair would look great. It's such a let down.. Someone please help?

First, I would NOT do the perm again. You've already had it done twice and frankly, you are lucky your hair isn't fried. Please don't risk a third time.
No two heads of hair are alike. Just because you seem to have the same texture of your friend's hair doesn't mean that you are going to have the same results when getting permed. Believe me, I know this. My sister-in-law and I both have very fine, thin hair and her perms would fall out while mine would take to the point where the curl would never leave.
I would go back to the salon and let them do deep conditioning treatments to get your hair back into tip-top shape. Maybe they'll offer them complimentary, maybe not. Perhaps then a nice cut & style to add some bounce back to your hair. Don't mourn the perm that never was, how about you move ahead and look forward to playing with styles that suit your straight hair. Good luck!

My hair is the same, and I agree, do NOT go for a third perm. It will just damage your hair too much.
I tried perms many times in my youth, and they never stayed past that first wash. My hair is straight, normal texture (meaning not coarse or fine), and I have a lot of it. Perms just are never going to work on you.
There are other things you can do to get curls. After you wash your hair, you can put setting lotion (or mousse) in it, then sleep with it in braids for wavy hair, or on rollers for curly hair. With the setting lotion it should stay in all day, and still be wavy the second day, just don't brush it too much or it will go frizzy.
