Hey, I have long dark brown hair and its naturally a lil wavy...I really want to get a perm but I have a few questions that need answered before I make my decision:
1. Can anyone give me a URL for NEWER hairstyles for permed hair?
2. Can you straighten permed hair??
Please reply with any information u may have on perms I am clueless!

well, since you use chemicals to curl your hair, using chemicals to straighten your hair would be a major disaster, and would probably strip the majority of it. If you are talking about using a hair dryer or other styling tool to straighten it, again, the amount of heat required to straighten a perm (spiral especially) would be very damaging. I recommend that before you go and spend the time (it takes a while depending on your hair) and the money to get a perm you may not want, try using those bendable tubes that you can wrap around your hair and leave in over night. In the morning you take them out and voile! A temporary perm! I think you can find them at Sally`s or another hair supply store. As far as pictures, look at the Interactive Gallery on this website!

I`m 17 and I got my hair spiral permed this past spring, and i love it. At 1st I hated it but that lasted about 3 days. I had really fine thin straight hair so the perm really added some texture and body to my hair. I was told i could straighten it with a blow dryer and a brush, but i like the curls so much i have never done it. You dont have to look like you stepped out of the 80s ever. somedays i add gel and mousse to my hair and that gives it a sort of wet tiht curly look and somedays i just add the mousse and then it`s really soft and natural looking. It looks good pulled back in to pony tails and updos and i`ve even done knots or knobs (depending on what you call them) with my hair. the only thing you should think about id what are you gonna do when it starts to grow out.
