I am 60 yrs old and going grey gracefully. I have naturaly wavy hair and I would like to get something done to add body (possible a perm of some sort). My hair is shoulder length and I don't cut it (religious reasons). My problem is when I go to a hair salon nobody seems to know what to do with my uncut hair. I know perms can go frizzy and therefore I am a little leary of them. All I want is loose curls. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Also can anyone explain what a cold wave perm is? That is one recommendation I got. |

Hi Cadee; If your hair is all one length...I'm assuming this is true because you said that you don't cut it...You won't really have curly hair with a perm or texturizing treatment, unless you go with quite tight curls. Layers in the hair make a look more curly. If the hair is all one length it will be more of a wave pattern.  So I suppose if all you were looking for was more body in your hair larger rods for body would be in order. On the Cold Wave thing...? I don't know why that was recommended to you...they tend to be on the harsh side. There are so many wonderful options as far as which product...My best recommendation is to find a Stylist who will work with your particular needs...and we DO exist. (I'm going to do a Thread on this Topic!) Get into those yellow pages and make some phone calls, explaining your needs. And eliminate some salons right off the bat...depending on how they respond to you. Lastly...Is it OK for you to use a Styling product of some sort??? You say you have naturally wavy hair already...Why not save yourself some money and hassle and go with a spray gel or mousse to give your natural curl a boost?
