hi. i'm new to the site so i hope im doing this right! hee hee. Well, I have shoulder-length, curly dark brown hair, with bangs (light brown skin tone) and i want to get them highlighted. I've never done anything dramatic with my hair, so I have no idea what to do! Does highlighted hair look good on curly hair? Even with bangs? I don't want it to look chunky or streaky. Is it supposed to be one color, or several colors? All over or around the face? I wear my hair tied up and sometimes all down, sometimes in a ponytail...would highlighted hair look odd in certain hairstyles? I always get my nails done, but i've kinda ignored my hair (*shame on me!*) ha ha, so now i guess i better start paying attention to my hair! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hello! Welcome to the board!
If you want to get your hair highlighted I would say go for it but for your first time go to a salon. I think that highlights look good on curly hair but I've never had it done before, just dyed my whole head. I don't like chunky highlights either but you can get very fine ones and the curl will break the line of color a bit so the color looks more randomly/evenly applied. If I were you I wouldn't highlight your bangs, I think that looks a little strange. You can do just one color or a couple. It depends on the look you want to achieve. I think that because you have bangs that color would look nice all over and not just framing your face. Sometimes with chunky highlights, or when the highlights grow out certain styles do look strange but if you get it done all throughout your hair (and not just on top), then I think it would be fine. Before you decide to color just make sure that you're willing to spend the extra time and money getting your roots touched up. Also, I wouldn't recommend anything too drastic like blond, etc. For dark brown hair I think dark red or light/medium blond look nice. Good luck!
