I am learning to perm. I have a cosmetology mannequin head and I am having a tough time winding the perm rods. The hair is at medium length and I can't get the rod to stay tight. I wrap it tight toward the scalp, then it unwinds about one complete wind. Am I doing something wrong? How can I make for sure they stay tight?

I am assuming you are using the salon rods with the rubber bands.

Once the hair is firmly curled. Twist the end that holds the rubber band so it stretches over the rod at an angle. It looks like a diagonal.

It holds the hair down firmer, but probably makes the rubber band weaker over time.
