Everytime I try to dye my medium brown curly hair it goes very dark, almost black. I hate it but I try choosing the lightest browns I can find and they still turn out black.

Anyone else have this problem?

Sometimes browns can turn out too dark. If you used permanent brown the first time. It may have turned so dark that a new color cannot show.

or

You may be using a semi or demi permanent haircolor. If used on hair that is too dark, it leaves it as dark as it was.

The more porous your hair is the more dye it will absorb hence the darker colour. My hairdresser told me that every time you dye your hair the more porous it will become and on top of that naturally curly hair is usually drier than straight hair which also contributes to dye absorption.

There is topic in hairboutiques article on colouring curly hair. Basically what happens is that, your hair is coloured perfectly but since your hair is curly the light cant reflect the color well enough like straight hair. So you end up with either a shade to dark or a shade to light.

Try instead of a light brown using a medium blonde or a light shade of blonde....
