Here`s an idea. I used to wear one everyday in my 2nd yr in college (1990). It was real human hair so no one knew the difference. The only drawback was that I didn`t feel that I could change wigs or go w/out it at all because then people would`ve known it was a wig.

I was watching GLOW on the style channel and this stylist (can`t remember his name) was helping a woman pick out a wig. It looked really good on her. That would solve the "growing pains" and wigs are much more accepted nowadays than they were 12 yrs. ago I think.

What are your opinions?

I love them, I dye them wrap them and thin them out. I have been wearing a wig for the past two yrs , but this summer I`m going to let my locs show.

I think they are a good way to change your style without doing damage to your hair.
However, one lady on my class (I`m a college student) wore one, one day to make her hair almost to her butt. I thought that was a bit odd b/c you could tell it was fake hair, since the other day she had shoulder lenght hair. But it`s really no big deal. i guess part of the fun is surprising people with new looks.

Hair is not a hat. But people often treat it like one. :D

Madison, what`s your current wig style like?
Do you wear the net over your hair b4 you put the wig on or do you just plunk it on?

I`m really thinking of getting another one after my extension fiasco, but I`m a preschool teacher and am very active and am afraid of sweating in it. Yuk.

When I wore one b4 I wasn`t as active.

Do you wear yours everyday?
Have you changed wigs over the last 2 yrs?

(I know I know, 20 questions:))

How much did you pay for them if you don`t mind me asking?
The one I wore 12 yrs ago was $180.
I`m just wondering what it would cost today?

Duke, would you suggest I just try and wait out the growing process then?

Do you think the same of extensions?
Are you a stylist by trade?

I know 20 questions again, :)

My hair is at the bottom of my nape right now with the bangs at cheekbone level and its driving me CRAZY.
Hubby only likes long hair, go figure......
so I`m growing it out but what do I do in the meantime?

If not a wig or extensions, what do you sugg?

lucky, why didn`t you tell us you were growing your hair? I was thinking of how some people
see hairpieces as a replacement for their own hair. By all means, get a wig. How long was
your hair before the haircut? Did you ask for a nape-length cut or did the stylist cut too
much off?

Just out of interest, does your husband like babushkas? They look good over short hair.

My bangs are at cheek bone length too but since I wear my hair in an off centre parting the left side go behind my ear and part of my right side bangs *SO ANNOYING* Know just how you feel.

Babushkas?

I`m thinking little russian grandmother. LOL

Ok, give this poor girl a clue. How do I wear a Babushka?

My hair was mid/lower back before I had it cut.
I tend to be a bit chamelion like and want to constantly change my hair. At one point it was different every week and people at work were starting a betting pool on what it would look like the next week!
I went from long deep brown to long honey/light chestnut, to bleach blonde and long (which was aweful), then short blonde (still not what I needed), then bright red because the color was going onto bleach blonde hair, then copper and midlength, then used a rinse and went black mid-length, then short copper.

The stylist did a fabulous job on both my cut and color. I went shopping right afterwards and was complimented by one woman in a hip clothing store and then a guy in a music store. I was thinking I`ve finally found it! The holy grail of style.
he he
But the upkeep was over $100 a month (cool salon but pricey) and I couldn`t afford it.
Plus, hubby wanted me to grow it out again. It`s amazing how his opinion holds so much weight. I mean it`s MY hair....

@lucky

I was wearing my "hair" everyday. except for on windy days lol didnt want to take a chance on getting embarrased. I would pin my hair back so it would not make the wig look bulky or lumpy then cover my hair with a wig cap.

I would by a wig every 6months. because it would become loose fitting. sometimes i would stitch it a little to make it tighter

180$ for a wig???????! believe it or not there are still some places that charge that amount.

i only paid 28 bucks for a 100% human hair wig. i think the style is called "ebone" its like a china cut.

wigs are hot and will make you sweat but i thin mines out with a scissors made especially for thinning wigs/weaves. my real hair was able to catch a cool breeze. i actually had people believing that the wig was my real hair. some just thought it was a weave.

if you have anymore questions just ask away.
