I am going to a Civil War re-enactment in October. There will be a ball after the battle! My question is if you have any hair ideas. I have very long hair - I can almost sit on it. It is pretty thick, too. I know that updos were very popular then, but I can`t find anything that is appropriate.

I would think of something with braids would be appropriate. Long thick hair looks really good in braids. But you will probably need to watch with up dos because your hair is so thick.
