Hi everyone,
I have three questions. 1.) How often should I relax my hair? I usually wait about 6-8 weeks. 2.) to brush or not to brush? That is the question? :) How many times should I brush my hair and what kind of brush would you all recommend. And finally 3.) how often should I trim my ends. I too am growing my hair out. It is to the base of neck. My hair is generally healthy since I stopped using the blow dryer but my ends are dry because I haven`t trimmed them in a long time. Will this promote hair growth?
Hope to hear from you all soon. :)

To All Hairboutique regulars out there,

Hi again. I truly hope that someone will respond to my question soon. Your advice is valuable. Its not a question on how to grow my hair long or anything. Just a simple question on hair maintainance. If you have 2 minutes to respond, it would be appreciated.

Thank You again /:)

Hi Bridgette. I`m sorry no one has answered your questions, especially when you`re being so polite about it. So I`ll give this my best shot. I`m not African-American so I can`t relate to the relaxer question, but I can tell you it`s best to never brush wet hair. Hair is most vulnerable when wet, because the hydrogen bonds holding hair`s shape are temporarily broken. They reform as your hair dries. Hence, it`s best to use a wide-toothed comb on wet hair, and only brush your hair when it`s tangly or really needs it. Any handling of hair--especially with a brush--is extra wear and tear on the cuticle, and this can lead to breakage if you overdo it. Use a gentle brush with boar bristles or a very flexible plastic one. Make sure it won`t tear your hair.

As for trimming your ends, I recommend doing so only when they need it. If your ends are ragged, split or really dry, get them trimmed. I`ve had hair halfway down my back before and although it pained me to lose even a LITTLE length I always kept the ends neat and tidy. I think it just looks healthier. However, trimming/cutting hair will not make hair grow faster. Hair grows from the scalp and is dead from the moment it emerges from your skin. It cannot tell the difference between cut and uncut hair.

I hope this helps you Bridgette. I also hope another nice person will help you with your other question!
