I had read some ladies like you. Some wore the African American relaxer kit, some pressed with a curling iron and some applied the little bit of hair oil.

first thing, i dont think u have african american hair. pure black hair is not curly, it is a thick afro puff. black hair is like concentrated waves. the only way to straighten that is to use a perm or a relaxer.

i don't think she has afro hair like mine at all... mine is the "pure" texture with tiny coils that are fuzzy and delicate. i think she has hair like some mixed people: fuzzy/frizzy but looser with maybe marker sized curl or coil pattern (as opposed to pen sized or pen spring sized coils) that defines with water or gel. i bet her hair gets wavy or even straight when wet!!! maybe closer to poodle type hair? my hair stays fuzzy/nappy like sheep's wool. it looks bigger when it's stretched out from being styled and then undone.

you can get tips on caring for curly hair by other caucasians at http:// - http://www.naturallycurly.com - http://www.naturallycurly.com that would prolly be a more culturally comfortable situation for you. otherwise i'd suggest trying protective styles like 2 strand twists and cornrows.

Hmmmm....Pure black hair huh, that is one of the most ridiculous things I ever heard in my life. There are so many different types and textures of Black people hair even those that come from Africa, from the very north, south, east, and west. There is no such thing as pure black hair. There is a trend, but not a thing as pure black hair.

-To the author: "White girl" I suggest you go to a very good beautician. Do your research? Because I do not know and I can not tell what type of hair texture you may have. go to www.growafrohairlong.com and check it out. It gives you crucial information on how to care your hair.

-Do well, make sure you condition your hair frequently...actually post this question on www.africanhair.com and you will get a lot of info--under the Ladies section. =)

sorry it offended the previous poster but i do think there is a such thing as "pure" black hair and i got it for sure!!! it's not a myth - it's real... NAPPY! it's like SHEEP'S WOOL SHRINKY and it doesn't look like ANY WHITE PERSON'S HAIR i've seen anywhere and there are many whites where i live as well as in the media spotlight so that just goes to show the likelihood that this white woman has that texture. there are whites with fuzzy loose hanging curls OCCASIONALLY but nowhere near my texture!!! there are whites with really curly hair that has some coils but there hair time and time again is still much looser than mine and coming from my perspective it looks to hang and go downward instead of shrinking deep into a circle around the head like sheep.

the idea of pure hair offending anyone is sad to me. i never graded my hair or said whether it was bad or good or even put anyone down in my post. it's real! i am sorry that is hard for you or anyone else who takes offense (cuz there are many who will naturally do so) to believe... and http://www.naturallycurly.com - naturallycurly.com highlights caucasian curls in their variety rather well. if you look in the gallery you will see that "white" curls hang more and tend to be able to define a lot more than "pure" black afro hair. if you look at photos of people from africa with low levels of mixing with other groups such as arabs or caucasians they (we/me anyway) tend to have super-super-super tight fuzzy shrinky hair that looks like sheep hair. i am cool with my hair i'm jus saying there is NO WAY you could mistake my hair for caucasian hair and i have NEVER seen any caucasians with my hair texture!

I was not at all offended in that sense. You are not getting the point of my post. The concept of classifying black hair into one category is a ridiculous statement--period. I have been to a lot of places, seen a lot of people, and acknowledge a lot of races including the diversity within the black race and let me tell you. There is no such thing as "pure" black hair. There are so many classifications of black hair from 1-4, from kinky to nappy to curly to wavy... and also because of mixtures of races or not because white people from Jewish to White people from hot climates have kinky type of hair as well--they even have to use a pressing come.

I responded to the previous posts because of the ignorance if not arrogance of their statements.
And as for your statement that is fine to say that you have "pure" black hair... I am not offended at all, but until we are all able to trace back our lineage and see who they have descended from then I would acknowledge "pure" black hair as fact.

Until then any statement like that is foolish. We do not even know our lineage and I believe that she might have "black" hair or somewhat kinky hair. How can I not believe her? She has seen black hair and definetley knows white hair as well... The other posts prior to my post were individuals who were offended at her statement...the point of my post was to respond to their statements.

Simple as that.

I think that it is very possible for you to hair similar to that of an African American...especially since our hair comes in many different textures. Why don't you try going to a hair salon with stylist for both African American hair & Caucasion hair! A person with more coarse or kinky hair my be able to help you better with straightening techniqes and keeping it moisturized and smooth.

I would suggest: (hair care products)

>Garnier Fructis >John Frieda >Paul Mitchell >Neutrogena Triple Moisture >Pink Oil Moisturizer

You have African American hair because you are probably to some degree African American and you just don't know it. You will love your hair once you learn how to care for it. Visit a qualified professional for a relaxer. Many People are in your situation get a relaxer and it looks so natural that the subject doesn't come up. You are not alone.

Why so hostile?  I was actually talking about the less polite posters from earlier.

Anyway, I doubt Bretini is getting any notifications about this post, since she never even responded to the first replies when this topic was new.

I'm sorry, Way2Caramel, I didn't mean it in a mean way or anything. Jazmynsgrandma was wondering how it showed up as a recent post and I just meant that's why it showed up because someone replied to it. I don't care if you replied to the post or not. I think it's nice that you want to help the girl when the original repliers were being mean to her. Next time I'll just say someone replied to it without using names.  I'm really sorry. Please forgive me.

Sure I can forgive you Layla, I understand. Maybe I shouldn't of assumed that the comment was made with malicious intensions!
It's hard to interpert how something is meant thru just words.
