I wish I knew the answer to your question, too. I have been trying this for years, and the longest I can go is 6 months. By then, my hair is coming out in handfuls and I am miserable. I then go to my stylist, who chews me out, saying I have to come in for a relaxer every six weeks because after that my hair starts to shed. This is true, and it pisses me off, because my natural new growth looks so wavy and cute. I am left with her suggestion to either cut it all off at the new growth, get braids or just keep getting relaxers. Well, my head is not shaped right for short hair, and I don't want braids for that long. So I end up getting the relaxer again while I fight with her to not leave my relaxer on for long because I don't want my hair bone straight. Most black hairstylists I know just don't get the desire for natural hair!!!

| I recently ended my transition period of nine months. I found a lot of support and information from nappturality.com There is a special forum and section for transitioners. I hope this helps!!! |

Ay wat up everybody. I dont have all the answers cause um jus been in transitionin for a while, but here are some websites, in addition to nappturality.com dat r off d chain... enjoy! 1) http://www.motowngirl.com - http://www.motowngirl.com - probably the most helpful out there 2) http://www.growafrohairlong.com - http://www.growafrohairlong.com - shows u how to grow ya hair quicker so that the transition period is shorter and by the way ladies, the key to these websites, in summary is: 1) stay away from harsh products such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, etc. and 2) be CONSITENT in wateva dey tell u. :-) For more info/help/resources, e-mail me. i am trying to do that too i made it 6 months which is not hard for me cause i hardly put perms in but i decided i will not fight it this time...my friend who grew her perm out told me she trimmed 2 inches off every 6 weeks instead of cutting it all off and her hair is now natural and past her shoulders i trim mine but i am afraid to cute 2 inches off i just trim enough for the new growth to come. ------------- Natural BC May 9, 2004 |
