I'm 13 years old and in November of 2003 I got my hair cut from a little below my shoulders to an inch or so beneath my ears. It's to the middle of my neck now. Starting and since Nov. 2003 I've had three or four relaxers and my hair is really thin in back. It's breaking off a lot, so I try to comb it only a little bit. I flat-iron it every day except for weekends. I'm trying to stop. I want to grow my hair longer than it was before. Starting Spring Break, I'm gonna start wearing my hair naturally, no relaxers and flat ironing only when i need it. My hair gets wavy-curly when it's wet.
Can anyone give me any advice on what type of shampoo, conditioners, etc., would help my hair grow stronger and longer?

Dear Growing My Hair Long: I'm 17 years old and have very kinky hair, naturally. I do relax it every six weeks because it keeps my hair manageable and stronger. However, you have to be careful about what type of relaxer you use because they are strong and depending on your hair type, they can cause thinning, dryness, and even hair loss. Have your mom ask your hairdresser what relaxer, shampoo, and conditioner she uses on your hair. STOP using FLAT IRONS AND HAIRDRYERS!!! They dry out hair and cause damage. If your hair is really dry, like mine, you need to deep condition your hair every time you wash your hair. Try to stick to weekly washing instead of frequent hair washing because that also can dry out your hair. I use KMS shampoo and conditioner, the FLAT OUT brand. You can also use Breakthrough shampoo and conditioner instead of KMS. But have your mom help you out too when you do your hair. My best remedy is experiement, but safely. Good luck!!

congrats on deciding to grow natural!!!
i think your hair will be thicker, longer and stronger natural but it's important not to comb too often and do protective styles. you can also take some hair vitamins and eat more protein.
good luck...

well one thing is you put alot of heat on your hair...perming your hair changes the texture and the heat do not help either with the growth it actually slows it down.
As for your hair thinning maybe you should try a kiddyperm they are not as strong

Hey "Growing my hair long" I'm trying to do the same thing. What you might want to do is get a trim to get rid of your split ends so that they do not continue to split down the hair shaft. Also you will want to use the most mild perm available. STOP USING HEAT ON YOUR HAIR. IT KILLS IT. Instead deep condition your hair with a hooded dryer. I use Deep Brilliance, and Organic Root stimulator's Hair maynoise. Deep Brilliance works wonders for your hair. Also you may want to try taking vitamines. http://65.200.170.239/cgi-bin/online_reference_new/online_ref.pl?function=Product&id=100272667928605 - http://65.200.170.239/cgi-bin/online_reference_new/online_ref.pl?function=Product&id=100272667928605
Dont wear ponytails, if you do switch to head bands, ponytails break your hair. if you like the curly look after you wash it try mousing it. It will maintain that look. You can try Pantene ProV's relaxed and natural's mouse. I hope this helped!

Hello Growing my hair long....
STOP THE RALXERS AND CUT THE DAMAGED HAIR OFF ASAP......You can use the motions CPR deep conditioning..it works very well...leave in for like 30 min once per week and your hair will be soft..... keep your hair moisturized and dont get discouraged....good luck!
