is any1 else offend by the name of this forum like c'mon not all black people are african american theres many different types of blacks throughout the worlds some are brazilian (a lil rare), haitian, trini, african, jamaican *smh* at crackers who think the skin tone of black is confined to the US and Africa I nominate this forum to be named..... the black hair care forum *still smh at crackers attempt to be politically correct yet failing to do so* |

| Guess what? I wouldn't come here anymore if it had "black" in the title, because no one is "black." How about not even naming this forum based on an ethnicity, but rather just forums dedicated to certain degrees of curly hair. |

yeah they are being pc... hee hee. they can't never win with us... we really shouldn't expect them to understand what we want to be called. we should have our own forums if we want to get specific about tightness of coil patterns and degrees of fuzziness. that is stuff you would get by experience so you can't expect straight/wavy/curly haired folks to understand and define coily/fuzzy/nappy haired folks hair. lol... i have no probs with the labels african american or black or negro or colored people. this is america and that's part of the package in living here. ------------- be careful... life is bitter sweet. we are living in a world of hate http://www.napturalglory.com - http://www.napturalglory.com thick naptural hair worn in twists, flat twists, or bantu knots. products: organic refined coconut oil and hair tea. some people are so petty! i dont see the signifigance of going through the civil rights movement over the name of a forum! African American is the best way to describe the forum unless of course you would like 'colored people hair' or 'negro hair'.. as if! we need to breathe and get over ourselves.. and for the record i aint in one bit offended

| I think the category is african american hair because it is an american company. The person who said that black does not adequately describe anyone was right. Black means the absence of light. White means the absence of dark, also not a term describing a human. I do not know anyone like that. The other types of "black" people you mentioned are Africans also, just emigrated or displaced. |

ummm, no. Why would use the word "cracker" and expect to be answered proffessionally or even a response from the admins? How do you know the person who typed in "african american hair" wasn't black? You can ask a large amount of blacks on this forum no1 would really care about this, but you did. | just a little side note... blacks (meaning people of african descent) in brazil is far from rare... brazil has one of the largest black populations in central/south america..... followed by cuba and panama. puerto rican(caribbean) and santo domingo (caribbean) also have some pure black populations plus a whole lot of folks of african descent. |

All im sayin is alot of people dont understand the black race african, carribean or american we are everywhere so i think its bull**** that were almost restricted to a name such as that. Its almost like everyday on this board where i see blacks say the stupidest **** about there own race like if ur african ur hair is thick or that all africans are dark skinned, all i wanna do is clear it up. Now i kno were all of african diaspora but we arent all the same the only thing black from around the world share in common is the fact that they are black so it pisses me off when im referred to as an african american cause i dont know **** bout africa, C'mon really im a carribean black skinned man with ancestry from africa. what i really mean is that black people are just like white people in the sense that there are diffrent types like white russians are diffrent from white italians and black americans are diffrent from black jamiacans i kno this post doesnt make alot of sense but i was in a hurry when i wrote it ------------- |

Brazil has the highest populations of blacks after Africa, so it is not rare to find black peope in Brazil. But I undestand you point. I for one, do not like the term African American and do not refer to myself as such. I mean what part of Africa is it that I'm from? You don't see whites calling themselves European Americas but rather they'll say they're, Irish, Italian, German, Polish, etc. But since the majority of Blacks in the US and surrounding countries are descendents of slaves who were kidnapped from their homeland 400 years ago and stripped of their history, identity, religion, and language. Somebody, somewhere said: "Here, let's throw these black folks a bone and call them African-American, we don't know from where in Africa they're from perse so we'll just reference the enitire continent as if it's one monolithic entity void of any unique cultures, customs or differences.. that'll make them happy" And that they did. |

Same poster that called someone else a sellout. Why is it the African Americans are the only one that do that? You don't hear Italians going around calling each other wop or Jews callign each other Kike. We call each other the "n" word, and then get mad when non-african american people use it. That word did not come from us, it has never had a positive meaning. It sounds like you need to get that chip off your shoulder and ask yourself why you think a thread about blacks discussing their origins is stupid? Blacks in the US rarely know where from in Africa their people hail. Why group everybody into one group like Africa doesn't have a gazillion different languages, cultures, customs and traditions. White people from europe can be german, polish, french, italian, norwegian, etc. But when I suggest that blacks shouldn't be forced to be grouped together like we are all the same you suggest I research slavery? Which part should I research that will tell me from which country I should identify with? In my opinion, telling blacks they should call themselves AA is like telling whites they should call themselve European Americans. If they ever tried to change the white race to European American like they've done the black race, whites would be up in arms saying, but I'm polish, I'm german, etc... Blacks in the US can't say nothing because we don't know. Are we Siberian, Ghanian, Kenyan, Egyptian, Ethopian, Sudanese? So why should we act like all these countries are the same? That's disrespectful to the continent of AFrica if you ask me But If this thread is so stupid then you should stay on up out of it. Why would assume that my few paragraphs summed up everything I knew about slavery? Of course slavery wasn't simple but I wasn't even talking about slavery I was talking about the term AA. Who cares if the OP isn't around anymore, why does it offend you so much that others discuss the topic. The world doesn't revolve around you and if people want to discuss something they should be able to. You sound young and like you have a huge chip on your shoulder. That's mighty bold of you to tell a group of people to stop discussing something because you don't like the topic.
